Callie couldn't help the smile across her face as she made her way through the hospital and onto her floor. Coming behind the hall desk, Callie found the appropriate drawer and quickly put away the folder she was holding.
"Torres!" shouted a voice from down the hall. "Come get your intern."
Callie playfully rolled her eyes at Christina's voice. Christina was one of her closest friends, and they were at one point roommates a few years ago. And she had been training in ortho.
"Damn it Yang," she teased, making her way out from around the desk to meet Christina. "I can't have five minutes of peace."
Kate walked up beside Christina looking very amused at the situation. "Christina Yang!" another woman's voice shouted. "It is 8 in the morning and I'm already hearing you yelling."
Christina knocked off her attitude as Meredith approached. "You are such a bad influence in front of the interns," Meredith joked.
"Nothing against you," Christina said to Kate. "I just hate working with new people."
"And that's why I'm a chief and you're not," Callie shot back with a smile.
"A chief that shows up late."
Callie again rolled her eyes and shot a playful death glare at Christina. "I was a little busy this morning."
Meredith, who had been watching her two friends bicker back and forth spoke up. "Yeah what were you doing Torres? You look really happy for somebody that's not a morning person."
She grabbed at the sleeves of her lab coat. "Yeah, what was so important you left me stuck with the new girl?"
Kate was looking back and forth between the three women. "Don't take it personally," Meredith reassured the new intern. "That's Christina for you. Although it doesn't seem like it at all, she's just really passionate about what she does. And that's her way of communicating it with new employees."
"Mer, did you just compliment me?" Christina asked with a grin stretched wide across her face.
"Nope," Meredith replied coolly. "Just letting Kate here know that you're kinda a bitch to the new people."
"I think I'm just very passionate about my job," Christina mimicked. She then turned back to Callie. "But you are not going to distract me from figuring out why Callie Torres looks like she got laid."
"I think it's chief to you Christina."
"Come on Torres, you've known me way too long to know that I'm never going to respect you like that," Christina teased. "Unless you tell me why you're so bubbly this early in the morning?"
"Christina," Callie said before rolling her eyes.
"I do agree with Christina," Meredith spoke up. "Callie, you never look this happy in the morning. And that's the truth."
"Did brownie rail you into a new oblivion?" Christina questioned before breaking out in laughter.
"How many times do I have to ask you to please stop calling my wife brownie?"
