Jada was sure she had fallen asleep on the couch in her office. And she was very surprised when she woke up wrapped in covers in bed. She sat up, cleared her mind from last night, and began her morning routine.
She was starting to wonder if she was in the wrong. Her chat had been asking where Callie was for the last few days as her wife hadn't watched her stream in a while. Jada told herself that now wasn't the time to think about it and got ready for her day.
When she was finished streaming, late at night again, she was surprised to find that her wife wasn't home. And that was very odd. Callie had settled into a pretty nice work schedule of working normal hours, and she would be home a few hours before Jada was done.
Jada unlocked her phone and checked Callie's location. They had set their phones up to be able to track each other during the whole Callie being assigned to protect Jada ordeal. And now they just used it to make sure the other got to their destination safely. Callie was at the bar. Jada quickly called her to get no answer. And again, and again. Still no answer.
She was beginning to get concerned. Callie never went out late at night like this without telling her. Jada grabbed her keys and hurried into the garage. All the cars and the bike were still here meaning Callie had most likely gotten picked up.
Jada made her way downtown as fast as she could and hurried into the bar. She was relieved to see many of Callie's coworkers, all whom greeted her. Jada felt bad for pushing past them, but she needed to find her wife.
Callie was towards the back by herself, having a rather friendly conversation with some girl Jada had never seen before. She stood down the counter top a little ways and ordered herself a drink.
"So you're in ortho right?" the girl asked.
"Yeah," Callie answered with a smile. "My speciality."
"I wonder if I'm going to be working with you?" the girl wondered aloud. "Meredith said she's putting me with somebody who's very experienced."
"There's not an ortho surgeon here that's more experienced than me," Callie boasted. "So I think you're going to be stuck with me."
"I don't think 'stuck' is the right word. I'm excited to work with you. You seem cool, and not like one of those stuck up chiefs."
"I think I'm pretty cool," Callie teased holding out her hand. "I'm Dr. Callie Torres. Chief of orthopedics at Grey Sloan Memorial hospital. It's a pleasure to meet you."
They both laughed and jokingly shook hands. "Kate Bishop, intern."
Great, another intern to be up Callie's ass, Jada thought to herself as she continued to listen to their conversation.
"I'm a little nervous," Kate admitted. "This is my first internship. And they put me with a chief."
"Don't be," Callie reassured her. "What I'm going to say isn't going to help but, if you get put with a chief, that means they have high hopes for you."
"Yeah, that doesn't make me feel better."
They both laughed. "I had a lot more interns before I was chief," Callie told her. "So, I'm excited to see what you know."
"I'm still nervous," Kate admitted.
"You're going to be great," Callie reassured her. "They wouldn't have let you intern if you didn't know everything you needed to know. And I'll be right there the whole time."
"Okay."
"I'm off the weekend," Callie explained. "But if you want to get a jump on next week, you're more than welcome to stop in and grab some of the case files. Just tell them you're Dr. Torres' new intern and they'll give you everything you need."
"Thank you," Kate said. "I really appreciate it."
"Anytime. A lot of us go out a few times a month and you're always welcome to come."
Jada watched Callie and the intern order more drinks. Jada was feeling nervous for some reason. She did not like how friendly the intern was. And how her wife was replying back.
She shook her head. Jada was well aware of Callie's opinion on infidelity. And she knew that Callie would never even think of that. But Jada was just jealous. It was her own fault she was jealous. She hadn't been spending enough time with her wife at all.
Jada continued to listen to their conversation. "My parents disowned me when I told them I was bi," Callie explained. "They didn't like that I was into girls. Then I married my wife. And they didn't even show up to the wedding."
"You're married?" Kate asked.
Callie nodded. "Yeah, my wife is amazing. She's been doing so well at work that she kinda forgot about me but she'll come around soon."
"Was it easy?" Kate questioned. "Like, being strong enough to tell people you were in love with a girl?"
"I think it's easier to tell your friends," Callie answered. "I had and still have a great group of friends, a lot of them you're going to meet, and they had my back. They were there for me during the whole falling out with my parents."
"I'm still figuring myself out," Kate explained quietly. "Like, I'm attracted to men and women but I don't know if I'm more so attracted to women."
"Have you ever dated a girl before?"
"Once, for a month."
Callie gave her a smile in support. "My best advice would be to follow your heart. You will find that person that you know is your person, and you will know it right then and there when it happens." She also added, "if you don't mind me sharing this with my wife, she gives a lot better advice than I do."
"Please do," Kate said with much appreciation.
Jada smiled and stood up from her spot and walked over behind Callie. "Callie, baby."
Callie spun around upon hearing Jada's voice and pressed a kiss to her lips she wasn't expecting. "What are you doing here?"
Jada wrapped her arms around her. "You weren't home so I got worried."
"I'm okay," Callie reassured her. "Everyone wanted to go out for drinks and I figured I'd join them."
Callie wrapped her arm around Jada and introduced her to Kate. "Kate, this is my wife Jada, and Jada this is our new ortho intern Kate."
"It's nice to meet you," Kate said as she held out her hand to shake. "Callie's told me a lot about you."
"Nice to meet you too," Jada said before shaking her hand. "Good things I hope?"
"Oh yeah, don't worry. Callie also said you're good at giving relationship advice so one of these days I might need that advice."
"I'm here to help."
