Lana blushed as Eddie crawled under the covers with her. Their sides were touching and both of them were acutely aware of it.
Once she'd finished rolling the blunt, she passed it to Eddie but he just smiled and shook his head.
"You rolled it you spark it, rollers rights man." He chuckled and handed her the ashtray.
She smiled as he said that and couldn't help but think how nice he was. How charming and funny and all around lovely he was.
Why is he so lovely?
She just didn't get it.
Sparking the blunt, she sat on that thought and tried to work out why exactly this boy was so lovely. But she just didn't get why or how.
How could a man make her feel so safe?
"Why are you so nice for?" Lana asked with a smile, her voice innocent and curious. She looked up at him for a moment before taking another drag of the blunt.
He furrowed his brows in confusion.
Does it really take that little for her to think I'm nice? Just treating her like a human being?
"What are you talking about?" He playfully scoffed. "Because I gave you rollers rights?"
She took another big drag from the blunt before answering.
"No. I just mean in general. You've stuck around after seeing... everything... and I don't get why." Her voice went quiet as she thought about what had happened, but not trying to dampen the mood, she quickly lifted her voice again. "But I really appreciate it... so thanks."
His breath caught in his throat and he grimaced for a moment as he also thought back on the recent events. But quickly, he focused back on Lana and smiled down at her.
"Well I'm not going to ditch you am I? You've not done anything to earn that."
Sighing, she looked up at Eddie again for a moment, making eye contact with him before shyly turning her head away again.
"You got in a fight because of me." She said quietly. "And had to make me throw up... I'm sorry, I shouldn't have put you through that."
She hung her head in shame and Eddie felt that rage in his stomach again - the blistering hot hatred he had for Billy, worsened by how Lana blamed herself for his vile actions.
How could she blame herself for what he did?
"Lana, it's not your fault he did that to you, you didn't do anything wrong." His tone was serious but soft. "I would fight any piece of shit for doing that to anyone."
She didn't realise how badly she wanted to hear those words until they came out of his mouth.
It's not my fault.
