LUCY POV
The engagement party went off without a hitch. The only photos that were released to the public were those that Sarah and Richards social media team released. The photos on our friends phones after we'd all had way too much to drink would only be seen by us. But we all had great bribery against each other.
Time was flying by. Oliver had received rave reviews for his portrayal of Laurie in "Little Women" and had more auditions lined up. My performance as Marla Singer in a stage production of Fight Club had also gotten me a lot of attention and I also had more auditions lined up. Joseph had scored himself three new roles. Fucking show off. He had a small part in an episode of Game of Thrones. Along with a part in a new series called Howard's End and another in Timewasters which he was just wrapping up filming on now.
It was all coming together for all of us. Ollie and I had a meeting with our wedding planner and our mums at our house and then we were having dinner with our wedding party. Nikki was going completely batshit crazy as maid of honour. Or maid of dishonour as Ollie kept calling her, earning both middle fingers from her each time. She seemed more nervous than me.
Our wedding planner, Juliet, was found for us by Sarah and had been a godsend. We had zero idea what we were doing. And who knew there was so much planning in a wedding! Flowers, dresses, suits, celebrant, rings, locations, menus, seating plans. It was so overwhelming if it was left up to us we'd either elope or probably stay engaged for the rest of our lives.
We wanted to get married and have the reception at the country house. It was the perfect location and we knew it would work having already had several large events there. Sarah was thrilled at the idea and had hired teams of gardeners and landscapers to ensure the grounds were perfect before the day. Which was exactly 6 months from today. It seemed a bit overkill to me already doing so much so far out from the big day but Sarah and Juliet assured me it was essential.
Our little Freddie was the light of our lives. We couldn't remember how we functioned with our hearing his happy little zoomies up and down the hall at home or his happy barks when we came home for the day. He was a complete daddy's boy, always heading straight for Ollie when given the choice between us. We'd discussed maybe one day getting a second dog when he was a bit older so he wasn't lonely. But for now we were a content and happy little family unit of three.
Juliet was currently sitting at our table, with our mums, with her laptop out, a million wedding magazines open on the table. I was standing in the kitchen pulling on my bottom lip what I always did when I was nervous or thinking hard on something when Ollie entered to refresh everyones cups of coffee.
He batted my hand away from my face. "What's wrong Harris?" "Nothing." "Bullshit. You're doing the lip thing again." He again batted my hand away from my face and then pressed a kiss to my bottom lip. "I like that lip. Don't hurt it please." I smiled at him and gave him a proper kiss. "Sorry. I'm just a bit overwhelmed again. There's so much to do and I've no idea where to start!"
"That's why mum hired Juliet for us. I'd be happy getting married right here right now in our kitchen. But I think our mums would murder us if we did." "Ollie can you promise me something?" "Mmm?" "I want this wedding to stay about us. I don't want it to blow up in to this enormous.....THING that doesn't feel like Lucy and Oliver." "I'm glad you said that sweetheart. I know you don't want it to be over the top and garish. I promise I won't let mum and Juliet go too far." He gave me another kiss and then picked up the tray of coffee cups taking it back to the dining table.
"Now Lucy," Juliet addressed me. "What kind of theme do you want for the wedding?" "Huh?" "The theme." "What like fancy dress?" Juliet cringed as Ollie snorted in to his coffee cup. "No not like fancy dress. Do you want it modern? Vintage? Boho? Country? Gothic?" "Oh. Um...I'm not sure. Not modern. Not gothic. Maybe boho but a garden party at the same time? Does that make sense?" "We can make that work. You've got the perfect setting at the house and once the gardens are finished it'll be perfect!"
