Joseph met Lucy and her future husband, Oliver, when they all began studying drama together at LAMDA. They were the best of friends and an unbreakable trio from day one. Joseph has never told his best friend however that he's been in love with his w...
I was beyond excited for our night out tonight! We had t had a decent night out as a bigger group since Ollies birthday back in September. The thing with The Sun and online hate comments really got to me. But recently, on Boxing Day, Ollies mum, Sarah, had sat me down and we'd had a good long talk about it.
FLASHBACK - BOXING DAY
"What's got you the most freaked out Lucy?" "I'm not sure. I mean first there was the personal comments about my appearance, then the nastiness from strangers online. Ollie comes from money. Big money. I'm always going to have it in the back of my head that people will think I'm only with him for yours and Richards money." "Sweetheart let me ask you another question. Have Rich or I ever given you the impression that we think like that?" "Absolutely not. Neither of you have ever been anything but warm and inclusive with me." "Has anyone you know personally given you the impression that they think you're with Ollie for financial gains?" "No." "There you go! There will always be nastiness and jealousy from complete strangers. There will always be gossip rags publishing complete rubbish about you. I still get it. Rich still gets it. Last week a story was published online saying I had "let myself go", because I appeared to weigh more than I did 25 years ago when Rich and I first met." "What?!" "Mhmm." "But. That's insane! You're still crazy beautiful Sarah! And you had two children and also aged another 25 years since you met Rich!" "I know that. You know that. The whole world knows that. But that's what gossip columns do. They try and tear you down to make a quick buck. I know this is all so new to you and it hurts seeing that kind of stuff written about yourself. But don't let it control your life. If you want to go out drinking and kiss your boyfriend in a nightclub than you do it! If you want to dance with your girlfriends than you do it! If you want to stay at home in your pyjamas in front of the telly than you do it! You do what you want. As long as your safe and not breaking the law!" We both chuckled at that. "Thank you Sarah. I think I needed that pep talk. I want to go out with my friends. I need to get out of my own head don't I?" "A little bit. But don't be hard on yourself. Remember this is all so new to you. You and Ollie get out there and show the world you're in love!"
BACK TO PRESENT DAY - NEW YEARS EVE
We were going out as a group. If anyone took photos or published anything else....fuck 'em. Sarah was right. I wasn't going to let my fear of judgement by the media or the public control my life. Or I was never going to make it 1. As Oliver's girlfriend and 2. As an actress myself once I was done with LAMDA. Tonight was about me and my friends and we were going to have a blast. It was also about setting Nikki up with Hannah!
Nikki was still acting slightly pissy about the whole thing. But I knew her too well. I think she was starting to get a little bit excited about a date with a pretty girl. She'd been single for so long. While we were waiting for Ollie to pick us up we were getting ready for dinner. As a group we'd decided on dinner at The Ivy and then we'd move on to a pub or a nightclub. Nikki was letting me play dress up on her.
