Some weeks later 1873

Ever since the pair confessed their love for each other. No more secrets were hidden so the mood for the pair was happier as it could be. Both were the ages of 18 and 19 so it was young love. Veronika was able to find work at a laundry so she wasn't always in the flat waiting for John to come home in a tired state. Her English improved a lot more though sometimes she'd say something Russian to confuse the girls who work there (she liked the teasing).

As for John his work was standard issued, working with his boys there made him almost exactly the same as before although now he has to deal with them wondering how he got into "her pants". Which was shut up immediately by his frustrated attitude. Their jealous nature was a bit humorous though as he'd tease his work colleagues about it. Simon especially got jealous.

Though curiously Fagin was still quiet whenever John approached him, it's like ever since Veronika showed up in his life, he had gone silent, only giving him orders at work and having no social calls. Which hurt John inside as his mentor figure wouldn't tell John what was going on.

Maybe he was asking too many questions and all. But he was still absolutely quiet. John is just hoping it was a faze and he'll be back to normal some-point. Though it didn't seem like it was happening any time soon.

It was the afternoon on a Friday so now John was walking home to his flat. There was nothing unusual as the same kids were playing on the streets in the dirt, feral cats were screeching aloud as they caught their prey and the usual loud conversations from neighbours barking about how they live. John entered his flat with a smile on his face he saw his lover tending to the fireplace. Walking over with a pride that would rival a lion.

"Good afternoon Veronika."

"Hello John."

He then placed a kiss on her temple before placing his flap cap onto the new side table. Because they both have jobs they could afford a little bit extra. Since she now moved in officially she dedicated some of her time to redoing the whole flat to make it more comfortable. Granted it was still in the slums of Liverpool though it was a now warmer and comfier place. The smell had gone and some of the floor boards had been replaced with new stronger wood.

Turning back he turned for his lover. Tonight was something big for him, he had to ask a possible question although he didn't know when to say it to her or if he did it how would he make it more romantic? Who knows, his thoughts were interrupted as the blonde girl spoke.

"I, I had to buy more logs for the fire John. Hope you don't mind." She nervously chuckled due their current understandings.

"Course not, we don't want to live coldly." He reassured.

"But we are poor. I mean it's a lot better than the outskirts of St Petersburg but...I dont know." Veronika was gonna continue but she didn't want to bring up the touchy subject. Her being a serf living in a flat was a luxury in comparison to what she and her family had previously.

"No, maybe financially but whenever it's you and me. We're the richest people on the planet."

He placed a kiss on her lips as he took a sit down on the sofa. Within a few moments he picked up his newspaper and began reading it. He was lucky to be able to read with his education almost ruined because of an orphanage that wouldn't take him in. He still went to a school though he was under the care of Fagin who had helped him out as well. Veronika had seemed to be a bit literate as well. Although she was a serf she seemed to be a good reader but since she was now living in England she has to regularly read her translation books so she gets more accustomed to this way of life.
