Chapter 19: The Red Wolf Strikes

A whole day had passed as it was night again for the had the trio of outlaws were hanging around the barn. The farm they were staying at was near where the proposed negotiations was to take place which was Dewberry hill. Though the mood was tense for them.

Davey had acquainted himself with the farmer of the ranch so they were safe to do their business. Though the farmer wouldn't have lived to see it as it was Davey who went to him. John wasn't in much of a mood to scold him about it and Bill had gone off to get something. He was just guarding the prisoner who had been put to sleep for the time being. He had already dragged things out longer than they should've so he had hoped Bill's plan was gonna work for them. Though the other's had insisted on killing the Red Wolf. He was hesitant on it as Robert was someone who seemed like a good person they'd have fighting alongside them, but now he was the gang's current main threat and he knew the rules with dealing with enemies.

But he just kept thinking on what could've happened had Robert stuck with John all those years ago. He had to push his feelings aside, as he needed to prove himself to the gang and that they'd have their end of year score on their hands. He especially didn't want Arthur to be tormenting him with the teasing for losing such a score.

For now he stood in the barn smoking eying up the prisoner. It was no wonder why the Red Wolf would have her as a lover. She did seem very beautiful with her long red hair and smooth milk skin. Then again he was secretly impressed that an unarmed woman had knocked down an armed outlaw with no hesitation. His thoughts were interrupted as the barn doors opened and Bill Williamson had walked into the barn with some other strange men with him.

Bill was never the brightest tool in the shed. But he always tries his best and prove himself to others, but he always seems to never get the right idea of things. Which is why some gang members tease him for his lack of understandings sometimes. It seemed as though for their showdown with the Red Wolf he decided to bring some friends with him. There was about 17 of them together.

"Who are they?" John asked motioning to the men holding their rifles and revolvers and taking cover in some places.

"Some guns for hire. They're the Geoffrey Hammonds boys looking for job." Bill replied.

"We don't need them, we're fine on our own." John said with a smug tone.

"Don't be arrogant John, that man tricked us into that crater. If there are more of us then we have more chances at shooting him."

"Alright, but why couldn't you get Mac or Arthur over here?" Davey asked as he came into the barn.

"Cause Dutch said this was our thing. So he didn't say he wanted anyone else involved. Besides I bumped into these dudes in the saloon the other day and they seemed desperate for a job."

"I wasn't aware we was sharing the score with those degenerates." Davey raised an eyebrow on Bill.

Bill just paused as he then took a look around seeing the hired guns just polishing their guns or smoking. Seemingly not taking much attention to Dutch's boys.

"Well, we'll...kill them later." Bill said quietly as only Davey and John heard what he said.

"Alright." Davey replied.

"We need to be smart though, we just got the law on us." John pointed out as he went to talk to one of the hired guns. They had to await for the next day and hope that the Red Wolf would show up by then. Cause otherwise he'd have to give into his own demands and keep the girl prisoner for longer.

He was there, armed with his black and gold revolvers along with a pump action shotgun holstered on his back and a Lancaster repeater rifle in hand. He was hard pressing through the cold frosty night as ice had covered the lake they was passing. In fact they was riding on it. The winter had come in with a cruel entrance with the cold getting into the Red Wolf's bones making him shiver but it didn't matter, his issues were nothing compared to what the Van Der Linde Gang was gonna be facing with.
