Bucky's POV:

I was lying alone in my bed with my eyes closed. I wasn't asleep, I don't think I can remember the last time I was in bed at this time of day, it was 3 pm for fuck's sake.

I also couldn't remember the last time I felt this ill, I had broken bones on missions, gotten concussions, and all sorts of other shit, but I hadn't felt like this in forever, not since before the war.

My head felt so fuzzy and heavy, my nose was thoroughly blocked and I wondered why I hadn't appreciated breathing through it when I could. My muscles ached standing up made me feel faint so I hadn't been able to get any food all day. Not that people hadn't offered, both Steve and Nat had come to check up on me, but I didn't want to cause them any trouble.

I heard the latch of my door click as someone stepped into my room and placed something on my bedside table.

"Buck?" Y/n's voice whispered.

I opened my eyes reluctantly. "What are you doing? I thought you were on a mission."

"I've been gone for three days, the mission is over." She replied. "Sit up a bit, it might help you feel better."

She rearranged the pillows to help me prop myself up before I said, "Go spend some time with the others, I don't want you to get sick from me."

"I've already said hi to the others, don't be such a fucking idiot." She laughed, polite as always. "Nat said you hadn't eaten yet today," She said, walking into the bathroom where I heard the tap running. "So I brought you a ton of shit, didn't know if you were starving or if your stomach felt queasy so there's everything from salad to a burger on that tray."

She came back into the room holding a bottle of water and a cool towel that she laid on my forehead before sitting cross-legged at the end of the bed.

"I thought the serum meant that you couldn't get sick like this." She stated, pulling the comforter over her lap.

"Well me too, but I guess it was unrealistic to expect not to have a cold for the rest of my life." I replied, taking a bite of a cheese sandwich.

"Maybe..." she shrugged.

My eyes scanned her properly for the first time and I saw the signs of a bruise beginning to form on her cheek, her lip was bust, and there was a red line on her neck.

"Did the mission go alright?" I asked before taking another mouthful of food.

"Yeah, we only managed to get two of the guys alive so they're being questioned by Sam and Clint right now." She sounded a little disappointed in herself.

"Are you alright?"

She nodded slowly. "It wasn't really meant to be a combat mission and I was kind of thrown in last minute. I think Nat was going to go with Scott, not me, but they caught wind that it might have been one of the leaders of the HERCULES Program so they wanted an 'expert'"

I nodded and took a sip of the water.

"I don't really know what happened but I got in a fistfight with one of their men and he held a knife to my neck. Not my proudest moment."

I shook my head. "You did your best, you did your job, and you got two guys for questioning. You did good."

Y/n just shrugged her shoulders again.

"Do you need anything else?" She asked and I shook my head in reply. "Are you sure? because Nat told me that you said you weren't hungry but you've nearly eaten a sandwich, a burger, two portions of chips, and a fuck ton of garlic bread, not that I can blame you, that shit is amazing."

"Want some?" I suggested. Y/n grinned at me and stole a piece off the tray.

"Are you sure you don't need anything else?" She checked. "I could go get you a milkshake?"

It was a tempting offer, but I still shook my head. "Save it for when I can go with you."

"Alright." She smiled before shuffling up to join me at the head of the bed and turning on the television. "You watching anything in particular at the moment?"

"No, but you can put something that you want to watch on if you like." I replied. It was a lie, I was currently watching 'Brooklyn 99' but I didn't mind if we watched something else.

"I know a show. Okay, so they work in a police precinct in Brooklyn..." She began to explain and I smiled. "You've seen it haven't you."

"Yeah, but I wanna watch it again with you." I replied, watching her face light up.

Maybe being sick wasn't so bad after all.
