Bucky's POV:

I hadn't spoken to Y/n in four days. It had been a week since our last proper conversation, and even that had been an argument. It was weird.

Y/n had been acting strangely too, her hips had always swayed a little as she walked but now it looked more emphasized and forced. Not that I had ever been watching her hips.

She hadn't had any ice in her drinks, even though she hated it when whatever she was drinking wasn't half-frozen. That's why she always had iced coffees and why I had known that she would love Terry's Milkshakes, he always added more ice cream than was necessary. Not that I was complaining.

I also hadn't heard her swear, which might seem insignificant, but zero 'Fuck You' s from Y/n was pretty weird.

I was probably overthinking. I had a huge headache that felt like something was pulling at the front of my head and Peter had beaten me at Mario kart way easier than he usually did.

But what if something had happened on her mission? she had been the only one there and could have easily skipped over something in her review. I needed to talk to Steve.

I walked into his office and sat down in the chair in front of his desk. He didn't look up from his page.

"Have you apologized yet?" He asked, now typing something from the file onto the computer.

"Not exactly," I replied. "I want to see Y/n's latest mission report."

"No can do, Buck." He responded. "If she hasn't cleared you to see it then I can't give it to you."

"Please." I said, "I think something's up with her."

"She seems alright, Buck. Drop it and go apologize."

"Has she told you to go fuck yourself since she got back?" I questioned.

"No..." Steve answered, finally looking up from his work.

"Has she told you that you're an irritating little shit?"

"It sounds like you just want an excuse to insult me." He sighed.

"Yeah, but I'm pretty sure that's Y/n's life purpose." I pointed out, "If she hasn't insulted you then something must clearly be wrong."

"I'm sure everything is fine." Steve Said, turning back to his computer screen and beginning to type.

I stood up and began to pace, "She just seems...off." I mumbled, not expecting him to hear.

"Probably because you two had an argument. Apologise and I'm sure it will all be back to normal. She's fine." He repeated, "She would come and talk to me if something was up."

I don't know if she would...

I turned around after thanking Steve and started walking in the direction of the place I guessed she would be. The pool.

That was one thing that hadn't changed, if anything, she had spent even more time in the pool these last few days.

I walked in to see that I was right, Y/n was swimming gracefully back and forth in the Olympic-sized pool that (as per usual) was otherwise empty. She didn't have an actual claim to it, but the others didn't swim much, so this was her space.

I stood over the edge, waiting for her to notice me as she swam towards me. She wasn't wearing a T-shirt like she usually did, that was weird.

She didn't always wear one; when we went to the beach she, Nat, and Wanda would usually just wear a bikini and some kind of wrap but she almost always wore one for her training.

Eventually, I got bored of waiting and yelled when her head breached the water.

Her gaze shifted up to the clock on the wall and then to me before sighing and climbing out.

"What do you want, Barnes?" She asked, ringing her hair out.

"I just wanted to check that you were okay after your mission," I replied truthfully.

"Why would you do that?"

"Perché non sei la persona peggiore del mondo." I retorted sarcastically in Italian. (because you're not the worst person in the world)

Surprisingly, Y/n looked up at me as if she was confused which was weird. I knew she knew what that meant.

My eyes scanned her body (something I had been trying very hard not to do as she stood in front of me wearing almost nothing) and then I saw it.

Or rather I didn't see it.

Her scar, the one on her hip, was gone.

I didn't know who the fuck that was, but that was not Y/n.
