Bucky's POV:

I fucked up.

I know that, I yelled at her in the heat of the moment and said something that not only wasn't true but was something that I knew she worried about.

I had been a complete asshole, which is why I hadn't gone completely berserk about being kicked off the mission, what she had done made sense.

She was going to get back from her mission today, and I had had three days to plan an apology speech. I was hoping she would apologize a little too, but I realized that while she had crossed the line, I had blown the line up with gunpowder and dragged the rubble away and that given how stubborn Y/n was, it wasn't guaranteed.

I just wanted to apologize and try to move past it, I had grown fond of our new friendship.

At that moment, she walked into the living room and I jumped out of my chair before striding over to her.

"Go away."

She walked straight past me. Great.

"Y/n, I-" I tried to say before getting cut off.

"I don't want to talk to you, Barnes."

Ouch. She hadn't called me Barnes in a while (other than during the argument), we were mostly on first-name terms other than when she called me Bucky which had been happening more often. Obviously, not anymore.

"Y/n/n, please. Let me-" I tried again, hoping she would give me another chance.

"Don't call me that." She responded.

Later, when I was back in my bedroom, Steve burst in without knocking.

"What happened, Buck?" He asked, gritting his teeth so that he wouldn't yell.

"What the fuck, Steve? I could have been naked!"

"What happened between you and Y/n? I thought you were getting along." He inquired, standing with his arms crossed in front of the door.

"I don't know," -I do know- " we had an argument." I replied.

"About what?" He pressed. "What the fuck do you two have to argue about?"

Shit. Steve was swearing, that was a bad sign.

"It doesn't matter." I answered, trying to hide the slight tone of defeat in my voice.

"It does matter. It matters because now my two best friends can't exist in the same room and that's pretty shitty because it feels like you're making me decide."

I could see where he was coming from there too. Wow, I had fucked this up.

"What did you argue about?" He asked again.

I couldn't tell him, the story of Y/n and her brother wasn't mine to tell.

"Did you fuck?"

"No!" Yes, but that wasn't what it was about and I had to admit, that certainly wasn't what I expected Steve to say.

"Whatever happened, you two need to just sort it out because I don't know how well the team can handle having you two back at each other's throats again." Steve rubbed his hand over his face in frustration. "And because I care about you two. I don't like seeing either of you sad."

"Y/n seems fine." I muttered under my breath.

"That." Steve pointed at me, using his 'Captain America' speech voice. "That is the exact kind of thing you should avoid when you apologize."

"I have tried Steve," I mentioned, "and what if it was her who did something wrong?" I asked. It didn't sound like Steve had the whole story and that he was just pinning all the blame on me.

"I'm inclined to believe it was something you said, Buck, given that she told me that if you went on the mission you would end up dead."

Oh.

"You alright?" He questioned, "You two were just starting to get along."

"Yeah, I'm fine." I lied, she can be a bitch but I think I miss her a little already...
