Shorty drove off the sidewalk, checking the rearview mirrors for ninjas. Gunfire erupted down the street.
"Just like old times, Dr. Jones!" Shorty yelled, ducking. "A fast car, a chase and..." he looked at Emily. "A beautiful woman."
"Eyes on the road!" Emily growled, pulling her pistol.
Indy looked back, "They're using motorcycles. And automatic weapons."
"Dad! Give me your gun!" Emily slipped out the window, leaning over the roof of their taxi, weapons in each hand, firing.
Several ninjas went down.
Shorty looked impressed.
Indy shrugged. "She's a better shot than me."
"Reload, Dad!"
There was a shout from the sidewalk. "Ma'am!"
Several soldiers and civilian men had taken cover, pistols drawn and were closing in on the ninjas.
Emily pointed to the ninjas. "They started it!"
"Got it, ma'am!" Six armed Americans went after the ninjas... soldiers and civilians.
She slipped back into the car. "Wow. Armed citizenry doing the great thing. I love America!"
Shorty slung the car around a corner.
Indy slid across the backseat, while reloading. "Shorty - you still haven't learned how to drive -"
"I'm a pilot! We follow the dotted line in the middle of the road! Do you want me to do that, Dr. Jones?"
"No." Indy handed the weapons back to Emily. "Any more?"
"They're ninjas, Dad - we're not going to see them until its too late."
There was a thud on top of the car.
"Right on cue," Indy muttered.
Shorty cut across traffic, spinning the car onto a busy main street.
Indy looked at the various ornate marble structures. "Can we avoid federal government buildings?"
"How about the Japanese consulate?" Shorty asked, as their taxi jerked onto a side street.
"That's not in this district," Indy replied, as the ninja tried to swing in the window. Indy grabbed the ninja's ankles and folded the ninja back out the window.
"Cab's taken!" Shorty cried, weaving in and out of traffic.
Sirens wailed behind them.
Shorty hammered down the gas pedal.
"Do you know where we're going?" Emily cried. The streets were all blurring together.
"Over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house we go!"
"WHAT?" Indy and Emily yelled.
Shorty swung the taxi onto a bridge. "Yep. Dr. Jones, Grandmother wants to hire you to do a job!"
"Which one of us?" Emily asked.
"Shorty! I am not endangering your grandmother!" Indy lectured. "We have ninjas after us! It wouldn't be safe for a sweet old lady -"
"She makes great Chinese food."
"I'm in," Emily declared.
"EM!" Indy stared at her.
"The ninjas came before we had dinner, Dad. I'm hungry."
"Not to worry, Dr. Jones!" Shorty grinned at Indy in the rearview mirror. "You won't put her in danger - She's the Triad crime boss for most of Southeast Asia."
