"Can I come with you, Uncle Indy?" Seal Child asked.
Indy paused. Ross was busy setting up the field phone, attaching it to the jeep battery, wind up the small box to charge it so that the signal could be patched across to the military headquarters on the tiny island.
Indy knelt in front of Seal Child. "Seal Child, are you going to stay here?"
"I want to come with you."
"I thought you said this place was cursed," Indy reminded the small boy.
"But you're not afraid, Uncle Indy!"
Indy smiled. "That doesn't mean its not dangerous. There could be traps, and cave ins and -"
The little boy was jumping up and down, getting swallowed in his too big parka with every jumping word. "That's! ...Why! ...I! ...Want! ...To! ...Go!"
Indy glanced at Ross, trying not to laugh at the child. Ross was distracted and focused on the potentially incoming ships. Indy sighed. "Okay Seal Child. A long time ago, I was your age - and I remember how little boys think. If I don't let you come with me, you'll sneak in on your own. So, you can come with me -"
The boy launched himself forward tackling Indy in a hug... just like Marion. Indy returned the embrace, suddenly all too lonely for Marion, Annie and the soon to be born baby.
"Climb on my back, Seal Child. I'll carry you through the ruin and we'll see what's in there. But you gotta promise me, you'll do exactly as I say, got it?"
"Got it!" The little boy scrambled onto Indy's back, latching his arms around Indy's shoulders.
Indy stood with the extra weight on his back reminding him of some of his old injuries, particularly the back injury from the Temple of Doom. He looped his arms under the knees of the child, dispersing the weight better and securing the boy against his back. "Comfortable?"
The child pressed his head against Indy's shoulder. "Yes, Uncle Indy. Thank you for adopting me."
"You're welcome, Seal Child. Kids need families, and we'll get you back home to yours as soon as we can."
"Can we do that after this? I want to see what's inside!"
Indy grinned. "Me too, Seal Child. Let's go."
