The apkallu paraded in front of Indy, stopping to face him. "Here is what we the divine rebellious council have decided. You will go to Diya. You will use the swords to free us. The sacrifice to be used, will be your daughter, Emily."

"No."

"Have you forgotten, Dr. Jones? We can, have and will take control of your puny human body - which means we can make you do, in your human terms, 'whatever, the hell we want.' Her blood sacrifice will free us. Then, you get to be our high priest and curator..."

"No. I won't harm my daughter! And I won't let you hurt her either!"

"You don't believe in the supernatural, Dr. Jones. You've said that many times throughout your career... so we're just putting you on notice, so when you look back after everything we've ordained is accomplished, you'll know we were right - and you'll believe."

"They called you bastard spirits for a reason," Indy growled.

"Oh, that's not us. Those are our children through human women." The apkallu studied Emily, struggling against Shorty as she tried to break through Indy's trance yelling for him. "She does look feisty - I may not kill her right away."

Indy stepped forward and took a swinging left handed hook punch. His hand slammed into the boundary stone, the bones in his wrist and forearm shattering.

He came out of the trance, staring at his bone piercing the skin of his forearm.

The apkallu faded into its stone artifact. "We never stop watching, Dr. Jones."

Emily rushed Indy. "Dad! What were you thinking?! What happened? You froze and we couldn't reach you - and - and then -"

Indy blinked, staring at his injured arm and scraped knuckles. "Damn. Doc Heiser was right."
