Edo's Camp

Kamchatka Wilderness

Soviet Russia

1960

The moon silhouetted Indiana Jones and Edo's shadows as they grappled in the middle of the obsidian sea. They were leaning into and against each other, each man knowing different self defense trainings, but both equally matched and equally brutal if cornered.

Indy grinned at Edo, both men's faces bruised and bloody, their eyes lit with fury.

Indy spat blood from the corner of his mouth. "Still looking for the Seven Swords of Diya? Didn't you hear? The war's over!"

Edo moved closer, striking Indy. "The way of the warrior is never over. Nor is the judgement for your country raining fire down upon my people -"

Edo's strike knocked Indy's head to the side, his hat flying off... and throwing Indy off balance.

"Lie to yourself all you want, Edo. I saw what you did in Nanking and along the Burma death railway. I excavated those graves and collected evidence for your war crimes trial. And then you disappeared..."

Edo stepped in for the kill. He gripped Indy's throat, bending him backward.

Indy felt his boots slip on broken obsidian. His knees slammed the hot glass-like obsidian.

A crack formed under both men's body weight. Indy could feel the heat and smell the sulfur rising from the earth. "Edo - you're going to get us both killed!"

"To die in battle is honorable. You are doing an honorable thing, Dr. Jones - sacrificing yourself -"

"Edo - I've got no death wish," Indy rasped.

Suddenly an apkallu rose over Edo's shoulder - whispering in his ear.

Rage contorted Edo's face. He let go of Indy, roaring into the darkness at the supernatural council's decisions. "What?"

Indy crashed to the ground, feeling the obsidian crack. He lay still spreading out his weight like a man on thin ice, knowing any sudden movement would fracture and collapse the volcanic lava dome.

An apkallu rose above him. "We told you, Dr. Jones. No one else has a chance of stealing the Seventh Sword of Diya from the treasure guardian of your realm."
