The apkallu shuddered. "You? You what? You - you can't be! You are not allowed! - Its not possible! You can't have seen the presence contained in the Ark of the Covenant! No one is allowed to survive that -"

Indy grinned, gripped the whip, gathered his core muscles and kicked in the same swinging motion that had gotten him out of the Well of the Souls.

His boot hit the apkallu's chest.

The whip moved... the leather weakening in the heat. Indy tightened his grip and swung.

The apkallu laughed, as strange sparks flew off from the impact of Indy's boot. "You can't harm me, Dr. Jones."

"Not my intent, apkallu. Not this time." He grinned. "But next time...." Both Indy's boots slammed into the apkallu's chest. He swung again, gaining momentum. Behind him, he crashed into the solid wall of the lava dome, pushed off and swung, grinning, throwing a flying kick.

The kick made impact. Indy stomped on the apkallu's face, kicking it across the jaw, and ran up the inhuman creature, throwing every ounce of fury in a leap for the surface.

His boot caught the top of the dome.

Emily pulled the whip.

Shorty lunged forward.

"Dad!" Shorty cried, grabbing Indy by the jacket and pulling him out of the pit.

"Son!" Indy gripped the young man, grinning.
