Along the Red Sea

Marion knelt, furiously hammering a small metal peg into the ground. It would act as an anchor and secure them when they dropped into the ancient air shaft.
The rock kept shattering at her blows. She kept cursing.
A shadow stood over her. "Marion?"
"Indy!" She spun to her feet and threw her arms around him. "I found the crevasse that Farouk mentioned."
Indy eyed the dark narrow shaft, swallowing hard, realizing that he'd lowered Em into something similar... and she'd wanted something more exciting.
"Indy?"
"Just thinking, hon."
"We don't have time -" She kicked the anchor peg, testing its security. It skittered out of the loose sandstone and fell into the darkened shaft.
Marion was about to curse.
Indy quickly covered her mouth and started counting.
Seconds later there was a small ping.
Indy let go of Marion's mouth. "Sorry, Marion... I didn't have time to explain."
"Counting the depth and distance?" She asked, coiling the rope.
"Yeah."
"And?" Marion waited for a precise answer.
"Its deep." Indy took the coiled rope from her.
She refused to let go. "If you think you're going in there alone, Jones -"
"Marion, the last time you got dropped in a pit with me -"
"We got married," she finished, facing him, gripping his sweaty shirt front.
"Oh." Indy blinked, touching the scar on the side of his head, above his eyebrow. Memories had vanished when the bullet had struck grazing the side of his face during Sidenstrasse, a World War II spy mission gone wrong almost three years ago. "Yeah. We did. I... I was thinking of the Well of the Souls."
"We had a kid after that one." Marion grinned through her fear. "I was hoping our date this afternoon would be kid number three."
"Agreed, Marion."
"Maybe a boy this time?" She grinned hopefully.
"I'll see what I can do, hon."
They both knew this banter was only a flimsy cover for their fears.
"Marion, take the rope and see if you anchor it around one of those rocks," Indy pointed, knowing his decision. His rope was still balanced and attached to Sallah.
As soon as Marion turned her back - Indy jumped into the darkened pit.
