Along the Red Sea
1947
Four year old Emily lay on her back, spitting and gasping as the water came closer.
She struggled, feeling herself sink deeper into the sand - still not sure which way was up, or what was going on.
The sand and dust were making her choke, as the water turned it into a slurry of salt and mud - causing her struggles to make her sink deeper.
She screamed - a sudden wave of salty water cutting off her breath and burning her face.
Her fists pounded and her fingers clawed at the ceiling.
Rocks collapsed - landing on her.
She rolled to the side, covered in the quicksand and started trembling - feeling herself sink deeper.
The water seeped around her.
Suddenly she couldn't breathe.
Emily jerked her head out of the water and screamed.
