Emily followed Indy's gaze. "Dad, there's nothing... Oh."
"You see them?" Indy asked.
"No. But I smell smoke. I'll bet that's Edo."
Indy rubbed his eyes in disgust. "Damn. I'm still seeing things... and there's real things out there to be seen." He looked at Shorty. "What is in that stuff your grandmother gave me?"
"I have no idea," Shorty shrugged.
Indy grumbled. "Follow Em, Shorty. I'll stay here with the rifle and watch your back."
"Right." Shorty scrambled away up the slope.
Indy glared at the shadows. They moved closer, surrounding him. One had a small Japanese cup of rice wine with a White Dragon on it. Edo's men had been making offerings.
Indy's glare deepened as he recognized the apkallu from the museum. "How the hell did you get out?"
"From Diya? I'm not... released," it replied. "You'll do that, Dr. Jones."
"Over my dead body."
It tsked. "Prophetic words, Dr. Jones."
Indy reached for his pistol.
"Bullets won't kill me." It leaned over him. "By the way your daughter is... amazing and headstrong. I like that in a woman. She'll struggle well."
Indy fired - and found out the creature was right. Bullets don't kill bastard spirits.
