Wright Patterson Air Force Base

Dayton, Ohio, USA

(About 10 hours west of Philadelphia, PA)

1942

Indy stood on the tarmac, cradling Marion in a final hug, resting his head against hers. "Are you sure you're going to be ok?"

Marion laughed, her hands on her pregnant belly. "Jones, I think you're more worried about this than I am! This is my second one. I had the first baby without you, I'll manage. And your father is around to help out."

Indy swallowed, gently placing his hands over hers. "Are you sure you don't want me to stay?"

Marion smiled. "Indy, we need the money."

He nodded. "Right. Marion, I'll be back in a week -"

"This baby isn't due for another month! Relax."

Indy couldn't leave. "I- I just want to be there this time."

She fiddled with his hat brim, grinning. "They don't let the father in the birthing room..."

Indy shook his head slightly. "Marion, I wasn't there with Annie and I'm trying to do better."

Marion stared up at Indy, her eyes lit with adoration. "You came back... and that's what's important."

Indy touched her face, the wedding band on his hand against her cheek. "I love you, Marion. Are you sure I can't do anything?" He rested his other hand against her stomach and felt the baby kick his palm. They grinned at each other.

"What exactly would you be doing, Indy? Men put the baby in, they don't get to bring it into the world."

Indy shrugged. "I could yell push like I did to the work crews when I found the Well of the Souls."

Marion playfully knocked Indy's hat brim down. "I don't think that would help... men yelling at women while women are trying to accomplish things doesn't generally go well."

The co-pilot called to them. "Flight's ready, Dr. Jones."

Indy waved him off, as his eyes locked with Marion's. She looked radiantly confident, despite his unease. This was the first time he'd considered saying no to adventure.

"Kiss me goodbye, Jones." Marion ordered, pulling him close. "And make it good, this has to last into next week."

Indy stepped forward and collided with her belly. "Sorry, little one." He felt movement against his hand.

"Little?" Marion laughed. "She's always kicking me, punching at something or swinging on my ribs. I'm betting she'll be just like you."

Indy chucked, stepping to the side and kissing Marion long and slow.

The flight crew broke out into cheers and whistles.

Marion stepped backward. "Enjoy your island getaway."

The co-pilot laughed. "It's the North Pacific, ma'am. Closer to Japan and Russia than the US. Its cold too, just like Alaska." He glanced at Indy and then back to Marion. "We tell the new recruits that its an island with as many women as there are trees. But between you, me, and your husband - ma'am - you've got nothing to worry about. There are no trees and there are no women."

Marion burst into laughter.

Indy kissed her again. "Gonna miss you, Marion. I'll be back in a week. Archaeological surveys won't take too long."
