It was a sunny afternoon.
You and Ayato sat on the side of the bustling Inazuma city street, on stools at one of the local shops. There, you'd discovered something new - there was a small shop that sold boba drinks.
Having had little time to explore Inazuma or truly taste what it had to offer, you couldn't say you've heard of such a thing. Apparently, it was a beverage of, typically, a simple tea base, with it's real selling point being a handful of bead-like pearls that explode with flavor in your mouth. It was surely an interesting experience.
Ayato thought so. In fact, he was the one who had brought you there. He rarely visited the city due to affairs of the clan and tri-commission, but he promised to take you somewhere special once he had time. Somewhere he liked. And here you were.
You turned to the man at your side, who was happily sipping away at his already half-empty cup. You couldn't say you'd ever seen him so eager to finish a drink. Or maybe he was enjoying it too much to stop. Either way, you were happy to see him relax and let go with something he liked.
You then took a glance down at your own fill. You haven't even started. It seemed so peculiar to you, how the small pearls sat at the bottom. The straw was unusually wide as well, were you supposed to just get right into it?
Before you could find the answer, you heard a rumbling sound. Low and lasting only a second or two. What could it have been?
You looked over to Ayato with surprise. He seemed to share the same feeling.
"What was that?" You asked, to which the man only flushed red in the face.
"Ah.. you heard it?" He replied, his voice hushed.
You had to admit, you were a little curious as to what it was. From his reaction, it seemed like it came from him.
Then, you heard another sound. Similar to the last, only now it was more apparent. Loud and prolonged, clearly coming from Ayato's stomach. Also painful, as he wrapped an arm around himself, clutching his stomach and wincing. You suddenly found yourself worried.
You put your hand on his back, patting him gently. In no time, he'd gone deathly pale and his body had heated up. It was extremely concerning.
"Are you alright?" You questioned, leaning in close to meet his eyes. He shook his head with a grimace.
"Ngh, I feel a bit..." Ayato stammered, his eyes shut tight.
He sat rather uncomfortably, hunched over with one of his hands still keeping a weak grip on the cup that sat on the table. It was already empty, even the boba had all been long gone. He'd consumed it so quickly... maybe it was food poisoning?
"Are you feeling sick?" You kept inquiring worriedly. "Do you need something? You drank a lot—"
"Apologies.. I think I n-need to.. go..."
With a strained groan, Ayato stood up from the stool.
"My s-stomach is.. swirling..."
His legs shook like he was holding himself on a pair of sticks, threatening to break as he tried to step away. You immediately put a hand on his back and rubbed it in soothing motions, keeping him steady.
"Go where? Do you need help? I'll go with you." You spoke as you patted his back gently. He only shook his head at you.
"No, ah... you needn't do that..." Ayato replied slowly. "I just need a short trip to the restroom..."
You nodded in understanding. He was, evidently, sick by this point. He may have needed to release some fluids.
"That's alright, I'll take you there."
