Summary:

Jean tires herself from working too much, often pulling all-nighters in her office. To compensate for the lack of sleep, she downs a concerning amount of coffee every night. The diuretic and laxative effects of the drink hit her at the most humiliating time.

I must keep working... no excuses.

The sentence resounds in Jean's head all day on her daily roams across the corners of Mondstadt. She never seemed to run out of errands in the trouble-filled town. On top of fighting slimes and hilichurls, Jean had to do paperwork as well. You'd think writing and signing documents would be a piece of cake, but often times a single batch would take hours to finish. How boring it was to stay hunched over a desk reading letters all day. Such tedious work, however, didn't get Jean in a fret, mainly because of one: she understood that it was her responsibility as the Acting Grand Master, and two: coffee.

Jean relied on caffeine as an energy source to push her through loads of paperwork. It was common for her to pull all-nighters in her office to complete her tasks. At times when she was assigned a heavy batch of work, the woman would consume enough coffee that could keep the whole of Mond awake for weeks.

Tonight was one of those times. Jean had actually finished signing all the papers that afternoon, and she was about to rest for the evening when something came up and she had to write letters for select representatives across Teyvat.

"Here are some references I found in the library. I believe these will help you in writing the letters." Lisa handed her a stack of documents early into the midnight.

"Thanks Lisa, I'll use these accordingly." Jean looked up from her desk and replied. "Geeze, I guess I'll have to stay up all night again." She sighs, then from the corner of the room, the water in a kettle starts boiling. Lisa notices and chuckles softly.

"I can see that you're already prepared." The women glanced towards the kettle which Jean heated up with a portable stove she started bringing into her office. Lisa looks back at her with a concerned smile. "I know you're always working but please lay off the caffeine, dear."

"I know... but I'll fall asleep if I don't drink some." Jean stands up to approach the kettle and pours its contents into a mug. She sits back down and drops a spoonful of ground coffee from the container atop her table. Lisa watched as her lover swirled the liquid in the cup.

Lisa walked towards Jean and caressed her hair. "Just be gentler on yourself. Aside from the stress, insomnia... too much caffeine can cause digestive issues as well. You don't want that, do you?" Lisa cooed as she used both hands to massage Jean's back. A slight blush formed on her face.

"...I know that. And I've been able to manage the side effects, so it's fine." Jean muttered in response, her eyes fixed on the pages below her. The librarian hummed.

"Good to hear, then." Lisa gave her a peck on the cheek. She went towards the exit of the office, and waved fondly at the other. "I'll leave you alone now. If you need me, I'll be in the library doing my research. Good luck, darling~"

"Thank you Lisa, see you." Jean waved goodbye before she stepped outside and shut the door. Jean was alone again in her office, with only a few guards to keep her company in the Knights of Favonius Headquarters. She inhaled deeply, then took the first sip of coffee for the night.

It was 1 am, about an hour into a long night of writing. Jean was getting ready to make her second cup of coffee. Normally a person wouldn't need another a caffeine dose so soon. However, Jean had built a tolerance due to the sheer volume of coffee she drinks per week. She doesn't even put down the quill in her hand as she mixes a new cup of coffee with the other. She raises the cup to her lips and swallows some of the bittersweet liquid. It was pleasantly hot and she felt the stimulating effects instantly.
