The snow coated every building lightly. The holidays had arrived. The day to come was the final day of school for students of Pine Ridge High and it was the Winter Yule. The school was buzzing with excitement and decorations flooded the hallways.

"Talk about a bunch of saps". Aliss rolled her eyes. "I think it's cute", Kimmy shrugged, "and it is a great time to mingle with people". "Rubbing against each other and contracting diseases", Aliss pretended to barf, "should be I be worried that you find that cute?" "You're just on edge because you don't wanna look lame in front of all our former mates. You and Kobe aren't officially step siblings yet so you could ask him".

Aliss smacked the back of her head, "I do not like him in that way and when we eventually become siblings, it would be super awkward". "Jeez! Sorry for making a suggestion". Kimmy rubbed the spot. "I still think we shouldn't go. If you want to, you can but I think I'll be better off learning more about this".

Her finger was pointed at the spell book that was chained to her waist. Kimmy could see it because of whatever powers her family secretly possessed. Being around Aliss's aura was opening her eyes. "You're lucky no one else can see it", Kimmy said, "and no, you're not spending a highschool experience ticket on magical spells".

They stopped at Aliss's locker. "I just think I need to work on my powers without passing out", Aliss stood her ground, "no one has attacked me since the mall and that is a bit weird, isn't it?" "Now I'm worried that you're looking for something to endanger your life", it was Kimmy's turn to roll her eyes, "maybe they're scared. You did freeze a Sprite then smash her into a million pieces". "True", Aliss nodded and inputted her locker combination, "I guess I should be grateful. I'm just a bit on edge. Those voices made being who-know-what sound like the biggest big deal in the world. I don't want any surprises".

A loud horn blew and confetti shot in her face. Aliss spat out the ones that entered her mouth. "Will you go to the dance with me? OMG! Aliss, you got asked!" Kimmy was jumping and clapping like she was the one with the date. A bouquet of bluebells which was her favorite had a note attached to it. Aliss read it out loud, "meet me in the auditorium by 3. I'll be waiting, Aliss".

"Ohhh", Kimmy wiggled her eyebrows, "the mysterious admirer! I love it!" "If you love it so much, why don't you go meet him?" Aliss shoved the flowers back into her locker, "it's probably just a dumb prank. Let's go to class before we get detention on the last day". "But the confetti and the...argh! You are impossible, Alissandra Patterson!" Kimmy jogged to catch up with her best friend.

"Students, I know you're excited for the winter break and a lot of you don't want to see me here but sadly it ain't gonna happen", Miss. Denver had sheets of papers in her arms while she made circles around the students, "I have your reports on your family histories which makes up twenty five percent of your grades".

The papers were distributed to the respective students. "I want you to know that if you didn't get the grades you wanted, I have some last minute tests with your names on it", she continued talking, "and since I want all my students to be bright, I will select some of you to tell us a pinch of what you know about the topics we would be discussing next semester".

The class erupted into murmurs. "Order in my class!" Miss. Denver pounded on the table, "there would be no whining and no complaining or I will make the whole class take the special tests. I made enough copies". For a history teacher, Miss. Denver was very strict and scary.

Aliss was content with her grade. She got an A- on the test. History was the only class she did not want to sleep in so it was expected. "I can't believe I got a C+", Kimmy groaned, "my holiday just went from bad to worse". "Like I said, Kimmy Su, you can make up for that grade with the special test". Miss. Denver quipped. "I couldn't get an A in a test I studied for but whatever", the girl sighed, "I'm not leaving this school to Mrs. Zhou with that grade". All the students laughed at Kimmy's extra nature. She was such a joy magnet even to teachers.
