"So, my mom was here?" Callie asked as soon as she entered her office.
Jada looked up from the couch and swallowed. She didn't know how Callie found out of if Lucia told her daughter about their conversation.
Nodding, Jada sat up straighter. "She was here."
Grimacing as Callie began to walk toward her, Jada held her breath. Callie hadn't said much, and she was ready for Callie to get mad. But, to Jada's surprise, Callie sat down softly on the couch beside her and hugged her.
"Thank you," Callie said softly into her ear.
"What are we thanking me for?" Jada asked nervously. This was not the reaction she was expecting to get from her wife.
"For saying what needed to be said," Callie replied softly. "I cut her off. For good this time."
"You cut her off?" Jada questioned, just wanting Callie to repeat that so she could make sure she wasn't losing her mind.
Callie nodded. "She tried saying she would do better, but I cut her off. I don't need her in my life. If she doesn't want to love me for who I am and who I love, then I don't want her in my life."
And Callie wasn't done there. "Thank you, for sticking up for me and for our love. Nothing she can say or do will ever change how I feel about you. Thank you, for standing up for Sofia and Baby Torres."
Callie placed a gentle kiss on Jada's lips. "I love you. I love you so much that I'll spend the rest of my life telling you. Except, I would need unlimited lifetimes to even close on the level of my love for you. I don't need her in my life. You and the girls are my life. And your mom is the mother I never had. I have it pretty damn good."
"We are not traditional, and I don't give a fuck about it," Callie continued. "You and I have a beautiful little family and that's all I need to be happy. I don't need her, I need you. I need you and I need Sofia. And I'll be needing Baby Torres when she decides to make an appearance."
Jada wrapped her arms around Callie's neck tightly and pressed a crushing kiss to her lips. "I love you, Calliope. God, I don't think I'll ever have the time to tell you how much I love you."
"Like you say, you protect what you love. Well, I love you, Calliope and I will protect you." Jada then added, "even though you don't need it, I'll always protect you."
Callie's smile stretched wide across her face. "I'll always protect you too."
