The aura from the wrestlers intensified at this announcement, ready to fight for their love for sumo. Lexi turned to Tennoji; “Don’t forget, it’s not just Jinou to worry about. All the National Treasures are in the upper ranks this tournament with a mixture of veterans to boot. It’s going to be a bloody feeding frenzy”.

“That’s no problem. I will show all of them all of my love for sumo, so that they never forget or question it again”, Tennoji declared, with a burning gaze.

Let the September tournament begin.

Lexi’s POV

The day's preceding of a  main tournament at the Kokugikian, is a ring cleansing ritual known as 'Dohyomatsuri' takes place, whereby prayers are performed within the ring to the Gods asking for peace and safety over the next 15 days.

To announce the beginning of the first day of the tournament, Taiko drums are played on the streets. However, two days before the tournament commences, the draw for the first day is decided.

And there is one fight that has captured everyone’s attention’, I thought as I look at the draw sheet.

Onimaru vs Oodenta.

As everyone needs their focus, I head for the stands and see Reina. “Hey Reina-chan, how are you doing?”, I call out. “Hey Lexi-chan, thanks for your help last time. I must admit, I’m nervous for this tournament”.

“Don’t worry. It’s only natural. I’m the same”, I admit.

“Well at least we have each other”, she said

“And us”, I hear someone call out and saw Saki, Hori and Kayla.

“Everyone”, Reina seems quite shock.

“Of course, we’re all rooting for our own individual wrestlers; but we’re here to support each other”, Saki says as she hugs me and Reina.

“So, how’s Ushio-kun?”, Saki asks.

Reina bit her bottom lip, looking anxious, “I guess as focused as he can be. He spoke to the old man Shunkai yesterday and since then he has been in the zone”. I have a pretty good idea what gramps said to Ushio and it more than likely caused him to evaluate and detest he’s own weaknesses as a sumo wrestler.

“He’ll be fine”, Kayla says, “besides I saw him speaking with Oodenta. Looks like they’re on pretty good terms”.

Reina chuckles, “Yeah, they are. They actually borrow books from each other. Considering how they first encountered each other; it’s certainly a one eighty”. Oh yeah, I forgot these two immediately challenged one another from the get go. Certainly is nice to see how dynamics change.

“Come on”, I say to the group, “let’s find some seats and see what happens”. The girls nod as we sat near to the ring and the announcement for the start of the next phase of the tournament began.

No one’s POV

“The banners are up to celebrate a full house here at the Kokugkan stadium. Continuing on to the second-half of the Makuuchi of the more anticipated match-ups. In the Eastern corner, we have Oodenta; coming in at 204cm; he’s the tallest wrester in Makuuchi. Against him, in the Western corner is Onimaru. Conversely at 157cm, he’s Makuuchi’s shortest wrestler. The height difference is a massive 47cm”.
