"Don’t leave me, please”, he cries.
Lexi tightened her arms around his body and held him close, “I promise”, she whispers, “I’m not going anywhere”.
The two teenagers stayed like that until their tears had dried up.
Basking in each other’s warmth.
************************************Lexi’s POV
All I do is hold him.
Just a hug and the world is a better place.
I could faintly hear the cheering crowd in the distance, but the sound that I was soaking up was the sound of Shido’s heartbeat.
Strong and calm.
Shido pulls back and I can see that some tears were still trickling from his eyes. I wipe away those tears and leave my hand on his cheek. “Did that slap hurt you?” I asked, rubbing my thumb over his cheek. He smiled, placing his hand over mine; leaning into it, “Yeah it did. You have powerful arm”, he admits.
Whoops. Just as I was about to apologise, Shido places a finger over my lips, “Don’t apologise” he says, “I deserved it. That and what you said certainly made me face forward, along with the rest of the team”.
“The team loves you Shido”, I told him, “Everyone wanted to give you that rematch against Sosuke-kun. But this is just one event on a long road for you. Even champions have a few blips along the way. However, those times will always make you stronger. Ever heard the saying, ‘Fall down eight times, get back up nine times’. It means that no matter what, you carry on fighting and never quit. That’s who you are Shido. You don’t quit and I know a lost is hard, but you have to not let it consume you”.
Shido kisses my forehead, “With you by my side, how can I not look forward”.
I smiled up at him, happy to have him back, “Come on, let’s get you cleaned up for your final bout”, I stood, grabbing his hand and pulling him to where the others were. When we entered hand in hand, I could see the smiles and relief wash over everyone’s faces.
Whilst the team moved around to get ready for the third place bout, my mind wondered back to the finals happening now. I’m curious to see who will win between the two National Treasures:
Onimaru or Kusanagi.
No one’s POV
Back in the arena, the bouts were in full swing.
Kunisaki lost to Hyoudou. The bout was certainly, um, a spectacle because of Hyoudou being an idiot and Kunisaki being equally an idiot.
It was now time for the second bout.
“On the west side – Sawai. On the east side – Kirihito”
“Who’s that?”
“What’s the coach for Dachi High doing inside the ring?”
“So, he’s a sumo wrestler too?”
Comments like this bounced about arena, in surprise at seeing the coach for Odachi High in the ring.
