Chapter 7 - Introducing Eiga High School

“Lexi-chan?” and I’m back from my daydream. “Yes Saki-chan”. “Shall we go? I think my brother and Kanou-senpai are waiting for you”. We walk out of the changing rooms and I can’t help but have a bounce in my step.

Tennoji’s POV

For the first time in his life, Tennoji Shido, is uncertain about something.

It has been a couple of months since Lexi joined the sumo club as a manager and jumps in from time to time with the training. He definitely knows he was not uncertain about her being the manager as not only has she completed all the tasks of a manager by getting to know each and every member of the club, she even points out areas of improvement and training exercises. Lexi has actually been an excellent addition to the club, that all the members were happy to have and he feels that they have gotten closer as friends. Even going as far as to watch some of her rugby practices which impressed him at her endurance and strength.

So what is this feeling?

Tennoji was pondering this in his classroom when Aki joined him. “What’s up Shido-san? You look like you’re trying figure out the meaning of life” he chuckles. I replied to him with open honesty “I don’t know Aki. Ever since Lexi-chan joined the club, I felt happy because she has been a fantastic addition, but something is bothering me when she’s friendly with the other members”. Aki was looking at me like I’d lost my mind. Just to prove me point I looked up and saw Lexi walk pass the classroom with Saki and Batmunkh Batbayar, the new Mongolian transfer student, following Lexi like a puppy. Ever since Lexi tackled Batb to the ground and helped with his training, he has followed her ever since. It’s annoying.

When I saw them, my eye starts to twitch and my jaw was clenched. Aki looked into the direction I was focused on and he started laughing. “Shido-san, do you think the feeling you have is possibly jealousy?".
“Jealousy?” I look at him with a questioning look.
“Yeah. Well, you met Lexi-chan first and even got her into the club as a manager. Ever since that tackle she made against Shiribu, the other members have respected her and even scrambled for her attention. Plus you said that you like her, so it sounds like you’re jealous”. Aki concluded his theory.
“Hang on, when did I say I liked her?” I quickly asked.
“On the first day of school. You said that you liked her” he answered with a brow raised.
“Whhhaatttt?” I stuttered “I meant I like her as a person because she had the same tenacity as us”. I can feel my face starting to blush.

“But” Aki continued “the way you’re speaking now, it’s almost as if you’re starting to like her, as in a romantic way”. It was then I felt like the answer hit me square in the face. The uncertain feeling of Lexi being around the other wrestlers and how they were trying to get her attention, the reason why seeing Batb following Lexi was irritating and the smile that always graces my face when we walk home together or have lunch together is because:

I have a crush on her and I like her.

I stood up so fast from my seat after realising my feelings that my chair fell to the floor and Aki was looking at me strangely. Almost as if in a daze I said, “I have to tell her” and start to make my ways towards the door of the classroom. “No you can’t” Aki stood up and tried to push me back to stop “If you just blurt out to her that you like her and she doesn’t feel the same, what are you going to do then?”

This made me freeze. I hadn’t consider the thought of rejection. “There is a time and place for this. Plus you need to spend more time with Lexi-chan before you confess”. I looked at Aki “Thanks Aki, You’re right there is a time and place. Right, plan of action - I will get to know her more and then tell her”.
