Chapter 11 - Unexpected Visitors

Shido could probably see my irritation at the interruption and kissed me on the forehead. He pulls back and smiles “Let’s continue this later”.
I sigh “Okay”. I stand up downstairs with Shido to living room. Apart from dad, there were three people I was very familiar with, standing there looking at us, so I pounce on the closest person to me “Gramps. I missed you”.

Lexi’s POV

“My little tigress” he hugs me back “how have you been? How’s school?”
I answered, “Yeah it’s going really well. I became the manager of the sumo club”.
“Haha. I’m not surprised that’s happened” he replied.

“Move over Shunkai. I want to give my niece a hug too”. I looked over to see uncle Shibakiyama and gave him a hug. “It’s finally nice to see you face to face rather again then over a computer screen” he laughs. After pulling back I then hug my other uncle, Yamatokuni, “It’s good to see you Lexi-chan. You certainly do resemble Jack and I can see your mother too in some aspects”.
“It good to see you too uncle” I said.

“By the way little tigress” Gramps asked turning to look at Shido, who was trying to pick his jaw up off the floor, “Why’s he here?” pointing his walking stick. Uncle Shiba and uncle Yama turned to look at him.
“Ah, National Treasure Dojikiri Yasutsuna, the reigning high school Yokozuna. What were you doing with our little niece?” uncle Yama asked. “So you were here again Tennoji. You’re here a lot with my little girl tutoring you? What are your intentions?” My dad chipped in.
“So what were you doing?” Uncle Shiba asked.

Poor Shido. He looked as if he was frozen in place so I decided to step in. “Okay enough of the interrogation. Let’s all just sit down shall we. I’ll grab some drinks and no causing Shido-san any problems while I’m in the kitchen got it?” I point to the four trouble makers. “Yes ma’am” they said. “Good” I replied before going to the kitchen.

Sorry Shido I can’t save you completely from them. Good luck.

Tennoji’s POV

I can’t believe my eyes of who is standing in Lexi’s living room. Not only her dad, who looks as if he wants to snap me in two like he always does, but some of the top names in the sumo world were right here in front of me. When Lexi went to the kitchen, I know she had done what she could to calm the situation down. The rest is up to me.

When the others had taken their seats, I stood in front them and bowed “Master Shunkai, Master Yamatokuni and Master Shibakiyama it’s an honour to meet you. I’m Tennoji Shido of Tottori Hakurou. I’m friend of Lexi-chan’s. She has been looking after us in the sumo club and was very kind to tutor me today”.
I then turned to Lexi’s dad and bowed “It’s a pleasure to see you again sir”. Lexi’s dad sighs “Sit down young man. You’re taking up too much space”.
I do as I was told and this was when Lexi comes back in with drinks and snacks, and then comes to sit next to me. 

The silence was uncomfortable and Lexi looked just as on edge as me. “Ahem. So dad, you were with gramps and uncles all day. How was it?” Lexi’s dad seemed to have fixed his glare on me before turning to Lexi with a smile “It was good. Talking about old times and get this they’ve invited me to their stables to try out the training”.  her dad was smiling like a little kid after being told that they were going to Disneyland.
“That sounds good dad. Just make sure you don’t wimp out too early on” Lexi teased.
“Hey” he protested. Master Shunkai and the others started to laugh at the interaction. Even I chuckled as anyone could see the close relationship between father and daughter.

“So unlce Yama. How’s Sosuke-kun? Is he still not participating in bouts?” Master Yamatokuni shook his head and sighed. “No. He’s still not participating, Even though I did say that he shouldn’t compete due to what happened, he has never made known his own desires on whether he actually wants to compete in sumo or not. Now, it just feels that he is going through the motion because he is my son”. Master Yamatokuni looked sad when explaining the situation. 

I looked at Lexi questioningly. She must have sensed my stare as she explained “When Sosuke-kun was in a bout with another wrestler in elementary school, his opponent was injured quite badly. Due to the difference in statue and strength, uncle Yama thought it was best for Sosuke-kun to not compete in bouts rather then restrain himself. I’ve spoken to Sosuke-kun a few times and each time I have, he has sounded more and more like a puppet going through the actions”. Lexi looked a little down upon revealing this. I guess I can understand. Knowing someone, who you consider family, to be breaking down more and more with the passing time must be hard. 

“What was the name of the other wrestler?” I asked.
“National Treasure, Onimaru Kunitsuna the elementary school Yokozuna” Lexi answered.
Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a while. “To be honest” Lexi started “I hope Onimaru does come back. I think he may actually be the one the bring Sosuke-kun out of his flunk”.
“I hope so too Lexi-chan” Master Yamatokuni said.

“He’ll be fine. He just needs someone to bring that fire back” Master Shibakiyama stated.
“Youngsters these days. All dramatic and shit. Gives me tooth ache” Master Shunkai moaned whilst taking a puff of his cigarette. “Oh be quite you old chimney” Master Shibakiyama said and immediately the atmosphere lightened.  

“Oh right Tennoji-san?” Lexi’s dad looks at me. “Yes sir” I answered. “You never answered my question from earlier. What is your intentions with my daughter? You’ve been around her a lot recently, so I want to know what’s going on” He growled.
I took a deep breath and looked at Lexi’s dad head on. “Sir” I bowed my head “Lexi-chan means a lot to me. From the first day I met her, I knew she was different and after getting to know her, she holds a special place in my heart. I ask your permission to allow me to date your daughter?” I looked up and practically see Lexi’s dad hissing at me and Lexi’s face was a blushing mess.
“Ohoh. Kids got balls and with his confidence he would take good care of our tigress”. Master Shunkai chuckled.

“Hah. He’d be a good match for Lexi-chan. I say let them date Jack and if he makes her cry we’ll just teach him a lesson”. Master Shibakiyama turns an evil smile towards me. I sweatdrop.
Should of thought about the time and place a bit more.

“How about this” Master Shunkai suggested “If the boy wins the National Tournament coming up and defends his title as the High School Yokozuna, would you give your blessings then Jack?”

Lexi’s dad was silent for a bit before speaking . “It’s funny really. As a father you try to protect your child, but at the end of the day they still grow up and will need to make their own choices. It seems Lexi has made the choice to be with you. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t have reservations. Tennoji-san, I’ve seen interviews with you and you’re very bold with your words. So as the saying goes ‘put your money where your mouth is’. Win the Nationals and defend your title, only then will I acknowledge that you are good enough to date my daughter”. 

Lexi’s jaw hits the ground after hearing her dad speak. I sit up a little straighter and accept the challenge. “Very well sir. When I defend my title, I will come straight to you to ask for your permission once again”. My confidence and determination radiating from eyes. 

“Hah. He definitely has the spirit of a Yokozuna. This should be interesting” Master Shibakiyama stated.
“Very well the conditions are set, but that doesn’t mean you can’t just stop getting know each other” he continued “From what Jack was saying earlier, Lexi, your team from England will be coming over to Japan in the next day or so for a game against the National Team here and you will be participating. Why doesn’t Tennoji-san go watch you?”

“Really? No one said anything” Lexi said looking confused. Lexi’s dad start to chuckle “Go and check your phone. I expect your team has been sending you message upon message about it”. Lexi left the to go get her phone and came back with a big smile on her face. “You look happy” I pointed out. “Yeah I am because the team will be here and I get to compete with them”. 

It was then I made up my mind on what to do “Lexi-chan? Can you forward me the details of the match as I would very much like to come and see you on the rugby pitch?” I said with a smile.
Lexi looked at me as if uncertain “Are you sure? The Prelims are not that far off. I don’t what to interrupt your training schedule”.
“Don’t worry” I replied “Leave it to me and it’ll work out” my smile was brimming with confidence.
“Okay. I’ll leave it to you”. She smiled at me and I felt my heart jump at the sight.

“Well” she said “I guess we’ll both being training hard then”.
