Corey was sipping his beer, watching Shawn. Who was watching Alice, who was awkwardly sitting on a plastic green chair, looking at the floor.
Alice had been in weird and awkward situations before... but god this was just.... tense.
"So-" Sid started.
"Shut up." Shawn cut him off and Jim snickered. Alice twisted her rings nervously, and Joey spoke up:
"What do you want with her Shawn?" He sighed.
"Well we gotta know the intentions of your girlfriend right? Now that the two of you are public." Shawn answered, as Mick crossed his arms. Joey rolled his eyes:
"Shawn we did what you asked, why would she be 'using' me?"
Shawn lifted an eyebrow, looking back towards Alice:"You tell me."
Alice shifted uncomfortably in her seat, feeling the weight of everyone's gaze on her. She took a deep breath before answering, trying to keep her voice steady.
"I'm not using Joey, if that's what you're insinuating," she said, looking up at Shawn. "I care about him and I wouldn't do anything to hurt him."
Shawn leaned back in his chair, eyeing her sceptically:
"And why should we believe you?"
"Because it's the truth," Alice replied firmly. "I know I may not have the best reputation with some of you, but I'm not a liar."
There was a moment of silence as everyone looked at each other, considering Alice's words. Finally, Corey spoke up.
"I believe her," he said, taking another sip of his beer. "She doesn't strike me as the type to manipulate people."
The tension seemed to ease a bit at Corey's words, and Mick spoke up next, his deep voice startling Alice:
"Well, if Corey vouches for her, then I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt."
One by one, the rest of the group nodded in agreement, until only Shawn was left looking sceptical. "Fine," he said finally. "But if anything happens, you'll have to answer to me."
Alice nodded, relieved that the worst of it was over. She didn't know how she was going to explain all of this to Joey, but for now, she was just glad to have made it out of that room in one piece.
