It had been a few months since Charlie opened her rehabilitation despite her father's cutthroat disapproval. Sure, it had always been a long shot. But it had been her dream since childhood. And now she was old enough to make it happen. Charlie had started from the ground up, from buying the property to renovating the building. She had even found a few friends and allies to help her. But it didn't matter. Lucifer still belittled her and all she had accomplished on her own. He didn't care. She needed to grow up and forget about her childish ideals. He had entertained her little story back then. But he had never believed her. And he still didn't. It was stupid and naïve.
This was Hell, after all. Redemption didn't exist for their kind. Heaven didn't allow the living second chances. They were pretty strict. So many mortals had been damned over one incident that had defined them when it came time to die. It wasn't right that the good souls were damned over losing their temper and throwing a few fists. But those above were looking for faults with their overly self-righteousness and high standards. Their law of "As above, so below" only applied to those favored. Which was nothing short of divine hypocrisy. It was why so many in Hell didn't deserve it.
As for Charlie, perhaps this was what she was fighting for. Not that Lucifer cared. In his eyes, he had failed to raise her to a strong, powerful ruler. He couldn't leave Hell to someone so soft and weak. Looking back, he shouldn't have been so protective. It had contributed to her being so naïve with her head in the cloud and full of foolish dreams. He couldn't let this phase of childish ideals continue any further. It had to come to an end. No matter the cost.
