It had been almost a year since Verosika and Striker had hooked up and started sleeping together. Sometimes it was at her place. Sometimes it was in his bed. Either way, their relationship was moving fast, and their first anniversary was on the horizon. And Striker was at a loss. He had dated in the past but never given much thought to gifts. But this time, it was different. Verosika was special. Failure was not an option. Too bad he didn't have many friends to ask. But there were a few. It couldn't hurt to visit them. Not much, anyway.
First, Striker took a week off from bounty hunting. He wanted to focus on his quest for the best anniversary gift. His exploitation took him back to Rough n' Tumbleweed Ranch. It was funny. He had promised himself never to come back. Yet, here he was. Striker knocked on the door and met Joe. Needless to say, the man was surprised. He quickly explained himself, and he let him in. While they talked, Lin made refreshments for the former employee. Moxxie and Millie happened to be there visiting. And they still didn't get along. But Striker was there for advice. Not a fight. Once the tension cleared and everyone was seated, things went smoothly. Kinda. Back in the city, Striker got to work. He finally had an idea. Luckily, Verosika was on tour and wouldn't be home for another week. It wasn't a lot of time. But he had to make it work. So, he took a reem of sheet music and began writing. It was agonizing. The writer's cramp was the worst. But he kept at it.
The week passed, and Verosika walked in the door to her boyfriend's house. He was there lying on the sofa, clearly exhausted. With a smile, she kissed his cheek, and he immediately woke up. She looked around as he rubbed his eyes. There was sheet music everywhere. But one set caught her attention. It was titled "My Siren" with some interesting opening measures. She smiled, feeling his arms around her. Striker was tired. But not enough to play his song for her. Verosika followed along as she sat in his lap. It was beautiful. She took in every note and hummed the melody. Following along, he picked up the harmony. It wasn't often that they got to make music together. After the last notes, Striker asked if she wanted to live together soon. Her eyes lit up in delight. She had hoped to bring it up but hadn't found a good time. This was perfect. Verosika didn't hesitate. She was all in. With that settled, it was his turn to act. Striker picked her up and headed to his room. He missed her. And there was only one way to fix that.
