Trial

The day had finally come. The courthouse was packed, and more viewers were in the lobby in front of a large tv. Octavia and Andrealphus sat in the pews along with the others. As one of the guards announced today's trial, the doors opened for the last time. Stella and Stolas walked in and took their seats up front. The judge took his seat, and the chaos began. Divorce was on the table. There was no doubt about that. But there was much more. The affair was just one issue that needed to be addressed today.

Stolas went first. His opening statement included his careless upbringing and childhood if it could even be called that. He went on to explain that everything had begun with the old ways of caring way too much about status and what others thought to denying children their own lives once old enough and forcing them to marry without any thought of their wellbeing. As Stolas spoke, there were hushed whispers among the onlookers. It was no secret that every Goetia had never been free to choose their life. They were a proud demonic race. They didn't have the luxury of not caring about others' opinions. What they said and did mattered. But Stolas wasn't like them. He had prioritized being happy over his role as a prince and future king.

Now it was Stella's turn. And she had also come prepared. She gave her husband a look as she took the stand. To start with, she outlined what their race stood for. The Goetia were rich and proud. Nobody got away with making them look like fools. Not even their own. To embarrass them was a death wish. Stella carried on and reminded the jury why they were actually there. To uphold Goetia laws and follow through without fail.

The jury debated for only one hour. They then returned with their verdict. The head juror handed the judge their final decision as the room fell silent. The judge opened the envelope, cleared their throat, and read the words inside.
