There were only two hours till opening. Shelly dragged herself out of bed. She showered, got dressed, and had breakfast. Being a cat demon sucked. And not being able to sleep on your back due to having wings didn't help. With a tired groan, she finally headed to the first floor and grumbled as she wiped the bar counter down. Why had she let Alyssia talk her into working here? Was getting up early like this every damn day worth it? Nah. But free room and board perks had been too good to pass up. Shelly looked at the clock in the lobby and sighed. She was too old for this. Perhaps having someone else to assist wouldn't be a bad idea. The bar had steadily become more popular as more demons checked into the hotel. After all, everyone needed a good drink after a long day. Shelly scribbled the memo on a notepad and tossed it aside. She knew Carlos wouldn't turn down the idea of more employees. It was just a matter of hiring the right ones. She knew Dandi could also use some help. Being in charge of cooking and cleaning wasn't easy for him alone. And speaking of the devil, she saw her coworker walking out of the back with cleaning supplies. They chatted about asking the boss to hire more employees as he cleaned the lobby.

There was only half an hour left. Carlos and Vincent were up front by now, discussing how to attract more demons. They needed publicity. And soon. Shelly listened in. Being a feline, her hearing was stellar. But sometimes, she wished she didn't have such good hearing. It was hard to enjoy the quiet. But oh, well. It also meant she got to hear juicy gossip among all the whispers. But that wasn't why she was always tuned into the patients and guests. Shelly was also security for the hotel. And if she heard something, she knew what to do.

A note from the author: Here we are back to gender-bent demons. Choosing a name for a female Husk was a little tricky for me. Usually, I go with a clear parallel (i.e., Charlie = Carlos and Vaggie = Vincent). However, "husk" isn't a name and wasn't easy to feminize. I looked for synonyms instead and settled on "shell" in the end. Since "Shelly" is a real name, it fits.
