Phenex had never given dating much thought. One reason was his fiery temper. As a fire elemental, control was the cornerstone of his powers. But it wasn't easy. Fire was spastic and unpredictable. Thus, Phenex decided to live a good distance from the resident population. But he still attended regular meetings, especially the big ones where the Goetia elites made announcements. Topics included new laws and expanding their influence. At one such meeting, Phenex spotted his old associate Andrealphus. The shifting temperature was hard to ignore. But what he really noticed was the young lady next to him. She clearly wasn't his girlfriend, fiancé, or wife. So, just who was she? Whoever she was, she was beautiful. Phenex missed the next round of announcements. He was too fixated on this mysterious and cool Goetia woman. Of course, fire and ice didn't exactly mix. But that little fact was forgotten. Phenex snapped out of his trance when the elites called Andrealphus and his companion forward. Andrealphus introduced the woman. She was his adoptive daughter he had found as an egg in his snowy forest decades ago. Her name was Malenia.

After the long meeting, Phenex found Malenia by a window with a distant gaze in her eyes. Taking a bit of a risk, he approached her. Luckily, Andrealphus was dealing with his pathetic brother-in-law and comforting his sister. So, he wasn't there to stop anything. Phenex introduced himself like a gentleman and offered to get her a drink. Malenia smiled and quietly accepted his offer. They started talking. After some time, he took a gambled and asked for a date. While dinner did sound nice, mixing elements wasn't a good idea. Nevertheless, she accepted. As they wrapped, Andrealphus returned to see this young man chatting up his daughter. As a father, he wasn't liking what he was seeing. But it wasn't a bad matchup. After all, a child of two elementals would be something else. So, he accepted their relationship with one warning.

Next week Phenex found himself wandering through the frosty forests in search of his girlfriend's home. He had never seen so much ice and snow. It was strangely beautiful. And he loved it. The snow melted around him with every step, revealing lush green grass underneath. Eventually, he found a medium-sized mansion in a large clearing. Andrealphus was standing in his doorway. With a raised eyebrow, he congratulated his guest on not getting lost and let him in. The two chatted for a few minutes while Malenia got ready. Phenex forgot why he was there when she came downstairs and just stared. It was pretty amusing. Andrealphus laughed under his icy breath and sent them off.

Over the next few months, Phenex and Malenia went on many dates. Most of them were in Pentagram City, where the temperatures were comfortable. On one date, he took her to the outskirts of his lands. Of course, they couldn't stay long, or she'd faint from losing her cool. Likewise, he couldn't explore the tundra for more than an hour before losing too much heat. But they made it work and shared pictures of the best sights in their homelands.

Eventually, Phenex took the biggest risk and asked Maleina to marry him. And he did. Of course, it wasn't going to be an easy ride. However, that didn't mean it was impossible. She happily accepted, and they sat down with her father. Andrealphus was happy to see his precious daughter in love. However, he did warn them that elements don't mix. But that was their decision. They were adults, after all. With that, he gave his blessings for marriage.

A note from the author: Here's a fun fact. Penguins eat snow to help control their internal body temperature. They will faint if their body temperature gets too high. With this little nugget, I decided to make Maleina the same. Even though she's not a penguin, based on the fanart, I found, it seemed reasonable to extrapolate the same circumstances.
