It had been one year since Charlie had opened her hotel and only six months since she had teamed up with Alastor. Things were much better now. He had brought on two staff members right away. The first was a maid for housekeeping and cooking. The second was upfront at the hotel bar. More recently, Charlie herself had found another potential employee. His name was Angel Dust, and he was an excellent cook. After a trial period, he was now a full-time employee like the others. It was still a small staff roster. But it was better than two.

Today Charlie and Alastor were discussing how to make the hotel a grand success. They still needed more staff. But that could wait until they had patients. Right now, their next step was marketing. Alastor laid out his plan for a fantastic radio broadcast, complete with interviews with the staff. Charlie listened eagerly. She hadn't been this excited in a long time. But it didn't last. The hotel doors flew open. And there stood Lucifer. He had come to be all judgy about his daughter's hotel. Alastor and Lucifer were former acquaintances. It had been a long time since they had stood face to face. Charlie cringed seeing her father. Her mood was ruined. Alastor told his business partner to remain inside while they talked. He knew facing his old adversity would be a challenge. But Charlie had strangely grown on him. And he wasn't going to let her precious smile fade.
