Competition for Creation

God gave his young son Lucifer and The First Man Adam a little assignment. He tasked them with crafting a new resident for Earth. God wasn't looking for anything too fancy and complicated. He just wanted something new and maybe a little different. Lucifer and Adam were given one week to plan and another month to craft. When their time was up, they were to present their models before him.

When the due date came, Lucifer and Adam stood in God's office as instructed. Now, it was no secret that they didn't get along. And this was the perfect opportunity to show off and win God's favor. Not wanting to play favorites, God asked Adam to go first. Delighted, The First Man stepped forward and set his assignment on the desk. It was a simple yet well-crafted man. He had all the traits that God liked. It was a great success.

Then it was Lucifer's turn. He had crafted a less-than-desirable but far more creative creature. Rather than embodying perfection and everything good and wholesome, it showed the darker side of life. To add, it wasn't even Human. It didn't have anything God expected from this small project. So, his creation was therefore banished. There was no place on Earth for such a thing. It was despicable. God immediately put his son's hard work down.

So, that was it. Adam knew what God liked in his little projects. He had played his cards well. He was clearly the favorite by doing precisely what was expected. He did things by the divine books. On the other hand, Lucifer had failed for going against the norm and showing that perfection was a pure lie. Sure, he was troublesome and did as he pleased. But he was also creative and innovative. He saw more than what was in front of him. Not that it mattered in Heaven.
