Backstory: Before he was reincarnated as a missile destroyer, he was once a human, a Fleet Admiral who retired after 32 years of serving in the navy. He launched an unsuccessful campaign for the US Senate, but was defeated by Harry F. Byrd Jr. His son, Elmo Zumwalt III died from his cancer on August 14, 1988, at the age of 42. In his later years, Zumwalt resided in Arlington County, Virginia, United States. On January 2, 2000, Elmo R. Zumwalt passed away at the age of 79 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, United States.
