End Game

Close to you

Lizzie's POV.

I made sure to wake up before she did. She was sleeping relaxed next to me, I wish I woke up like this every day.

I went to the hotel restaurant to bring her breakfast in bed. I want her to feel special, I don't want what happened yesterday to make her doubt herself even though I know she probably is. 

I don't know what her favorite breakfast is so I picked out several things so she could eat a little bit of everything. I put some pineapple chunks, papaya, strawberries and blueberries on one plate, on another plate I put two pancakes, bacon and some scrambled eggs. I put everything on a tray and finally I decided to bring her some orange juice. I got on the elevator and five minutes later I was inside her room.

"Where were you?" I heard her say a little nervously.
I walked towards her with breakfast on the tray.
"I went to bring you breakfast in bed."
I saw her blush a little.
"I was scared when I didn't see you next to me, I didn't like not seeing you, please next time wait until I wake up and I can see you" she looked at me with the most tender eyes.
"I'm sorry if I scared you, I just wanted to bring you breakfast" I said putting the tray on the bed and sitting next to valentina.
"Thank you, that's very sweet" she says giving me a kiss on my cheek.

I swear at that moment my belly jumped, I was totally flushed I could feel the heat on my face letting me know.

"I didn't know what your favorite breakfast is so I brought you a little bit of everything" I said watching her stuff a piece of fruit in her mouth.
"This is perfect, but if you want to know my favorite breakfast is some bread toast with avocado on top and scrambled eggs, I can eat that every morning and never get tired" she says smiling.
"I'll keep that in mind."
"You already had breakfast?"
"Nope, I wanted to make sure you ate first" I say looking her in the eyes.
I could see her eyes sparkle for a few seconds.
"We can share my breakfast, this is a lot" she says cutting a piece of pancake and extending her fork towards me to eat it.
"Are you sure?" I asked her.
"Of course I am Lizzie, don't be silly" She says with a giggle making my heart race.

Hearing her say my nickname did something to me.   We shared her breakfast while watching what seemed to be Valentina's favorite cartoon show on TV.

"I love Rick and Morty, this show makes me laugh too much" she says with a chuckle.
"Yeah it's good."
"I wish this was my reality" she says out of nowhere.
"What do you mean?" I look at her confused.
"It's just that being here with you makes me feel safe, I don't want to go back to my reality where everything hurts."
"You don't have to stay in that reality when we get back. You can stay with me even there" I looked into her eyes that were now teary.
"Life should be simpler, I wish my life wasn't so fucked up" valentina says letting out a few tears.

I made a promise to myself that I would make her smile today and that's what I will do.

"Come with me" I said taking her by the hand making her stand up from the bed.
"Where are you taking me?"
"You're going to shower and get ready, we're going to have a fun day."
"I don't want to go out" she says pouting.
"Come on you'll have fun" I insisted.
"Promise?"
"I promise"

When Valentina went into the bathroom I went to my room to start getting ready, I'm sure she will love my plan. When we were both ready we got in the car I had rented for the day and I started driving.

"So where are you taking me?"
"It's a surprise."
"Give me a hint."
"Nope, you'll have to wait until we're there."

I kept driving for a few more minutes until we finally arrived. I parked the car and we both got out.

"Oh my god you brought me ice skating" she said excitedly.
"I knew you wanted to do it"
"Thank you thank you" she said smiling.

We went to get our ice skates and the look of happiness on Valentina's face filled my heart. After seeing her so sad yesterday and today seeing her like this makes a smile on my face and the fact that she is so happy because of what I did for her, makes it all worth it.

We entered the yarn and she started to free skate. Her smile never left her face.

"Lizzie, come let's skate together" she says holding out her hand for me to take and I did.
"How did you learn to skate?" I asked.
"My mom taught me, we would go every winter to this place near Eaton Center in Toronto where you can skate and we would spend hours there practicing" she says smiling as she reminisces.
"That's a beautiful memory."
"It is."

We skated for several hours, valentina and I raced to see who could get to the other end of the ice rink the fastest. She of course won and did a victory dance that was the cutest and funniest thing I had ever seen making us both laugh at her childish behavior.

After skating we decided to go to lunch at a restaurant nearby, I was definitely achieving my goal, she is smiling and laughing all the time.

We sat at our table and ordered our food. We were having a good conversation when someone interrupted us.

"Valen what a coincidence to see you here."
"Hailee same here."
"May I join you?" The woman says.
"Sure."
It's so annoying that she had to show up Just when everything was going so well between the two of us.

Hailee tried to keep Valentina's attention only on her but Valentina didn't play her game, she took it upon herself to keep me in the conversation.

Our food arrived but Hailee didn't seem to shut up for a second.

"Valen I'm going to Toronto in a month, do you think you could show me around?"
"Yeah, I don't see why not" she says with a smile.
I rolled my eyes hearing that, I don't like the idea of Valentina hanging out with Hailee.

After our lunch we said goodbye to Hailee and headed to the hotel to get our bags since we had to go to the airport because our flight would be leaving soon.

As soon as we boarded Valentina's plane she sat next to me. I didn't say anything because I didn't really know what to say so I decided to stay there.

"Thank you for today, I had the best time with you and I missed you too" she says giving me a kiss on my cheek catching me off guard.
I tried to hide my blush but I think it was too obvious by this point.

The fact that she paid attention to my apology and kept it in mind made me feel some kind of way.

We watched a movie as we passed the hours on the plane, she fell asleep on my shoulder and I rested my head on her head as I finished watching the movie.

The plane after a few hours finally landed and she offered to drive me home. She drove for a while but looked lost in thought. I didn't say anything to her because I didn't want to disturb her.

She parked her car in front of my house and her face looked worried so I decided to ask her.

"Is everything okay?"
"Yes."
"You can tell me."
"I just don't want to get home, he's going to be there and I'm not ready for the discussion we're going to have" she says "could I stay here with you?"
"Yes, of course" I said quickly.
