They hugged it out for a few more moments before standing. Grunting thanks to achy muscles, Eleanor stood alongside the other two and immediately grasped onto Natasha's hand. She needed to be as close as possible to her, and Nat seemed to think the same, the grip she had on Eleanor's hand was almost painful. But, she would take any kind of contact she could get, even if it felt like her hand was being squeezed by someone giving birth.
As the three looked around, they spotted Alexei and Melina. Though he was supporting Melina who was hobbling towards them. Her brows furrowed slightly, wondering if the older woman was okay, thankfully it didn't seem like anything too bad.
They reached each other in the middle, "Everybody good?", Nat asked as her grip on Eleanor eased, and the younger woman was thanking the universe that she had proper blood flow again.
"I am clearly injured", was the reply from Melina, in the most deadpan voice that Eleanor had ever heard, she had to bite her lip to stop herself from laughing. It didn't feel like the appropriate time, with the weird second family reunion and the billowing smoke and crackles of fire around them. It would probably be insensitive to laugh, she thought to herself as she looked at the ground, even though it would have been incredibly obvious to everyone else.
"You got something to say?", Natasha brings her attention back to the group as she looks up again and notices Nat and Alexei looking at each other, the man with a small smile on his face as he shook his head.
"I'd just mess it up". It seemed like a sweet thing to say sort of, but Eleanor was hoping at least a sorry would have been said, but Natasha seemed to accept the gesture by taking his outstretched hand. Still, Natasha looked a little uncomfortable, her eyes darting up and down a bit with her jaw moving to the side tightly. So, Eleanor guessed it wasn't completely water under the bridge, which would be completely understandable.
The moment was soon interrupted by the sound of vehicles approaching and Eleanor's heart dropped to her stomach when Nat said "Here comes the cavalry".
She groaned and dragged her feet slightly as Nat began walking forward, leading her by still holding her hand. "Don't worry, it was deliberate. Needed them to see the Red Room was gone". That really didn't make Eleanor feel better, they were still about to be apprehended by the people who wanted to throw them in a secure prison meant for the most evil people in the world.
So, her face scrunched up in disdain, causing Nat to let out a small chuckle. Eleanor didn't find it as funny, she just wanted a break for crying out loud.
"So, what's our plan?", Melina voiced as everyone turned to the couple who had started moving slightly away.
Nat slowly stopped, "You guys go, we'll stay". Eleanor's lips tightened, it made sense to be the ones to stay, but again, she just wanted a break.
"That's insanity. We fight. We fight with you", Alexei interrupted.
"We'll hold them off", Natasha dismissed them, which was met with a chorus of disgruntled disagreements from the other three. "You guys just go. Besides, if it can work out with the four of us, with a newcomer", she smirked and looked at Eleanor, "You know, there may be some hope for the Avengers". Eleanor snorted as Nat held up her fingers to show a tiny gap, "Little bit".
"I mean I think Tony wants to throw me in the garbage disposal but you know, sure we can fix it", Eleanor shrugged and looked at Nat, failing to hide a smile as her wife rolled her eyes in amusement.
"Okay, well then if you're leaving I guess you should take this. I know how much you like it", Yelena said as she took off her iconic jacket and handed it over to Nat who let go of Eleanor to move towards her sister.
