Summary: Anakin Skywalker was the luckiest man alive. He had the relationship he had always desired. Well, almost.

Anakin was exhausted, his body barely able to follow his commands to move his hands.

It had been a hard couple of months - back to back battles that flung them all around the Outer Rim.

He couldn't even remember the last time he had a proper night's sleep or enjoyed a warm, real water shower. There was always the next fire to put out, the next battle to win, the next Separatist plan to foil...

He sighed and rubbed a hand over his face, feeling the bone deep weariness dull all of his senses. He didn't know what time it was or how much longer they would be in hyperspace. Probably he had been tinkering with his fighter for hours, the mechanical parts simple enough to soothe him and make him forget the disappointed look on Obi-Wan's face after their last mission.

It seemed everyone had decided to shun him - Padme had picked up only one of his past ten calls, and even then she'd been rather distant. Anakin could understand it - she had told him straight away that she didn't want to know the gruesome details of the war, but war, unfortunately, was consuming all of his life. He wished they could go back to the sunny days on Naboo, but he also felt hurt she wouldn't give him a chance to vent about everything weighing him down. He didn't want her to live through the horrors he had seen, he just wanted to share his life with her, to give her just a little inkling of what it felt like.

Obi-Wan meanwhile seemed anxious as they had been frequently forced apart during the last campaigns. It was odd - the man was the perfect Jedi and claimed to have no attachments, but still Anakin could see and sense his distress at not being able to keep an eye on him. Maybe his old Master believed that Anakin would go on some kind of rampage or get himself killed as soon as he was let out of his sight. Whatever it was, it was true that they worked the best together. They were a team. The Team.

He didn't want to think about how their separation weighed on him as well - the nightmares plaguing him of Obi-Wan dying. Of Anakin not being able to save him. He knew his friend was capable enough, but he could also be too selfless, ready to throw his life away if it pleased the Jedi Council.

He clutched the hydrospanner he was working with tighter, the thought of going to sleep haunting as he knew he would have to watch his master die.

How could the Council not see that he needed to be by Obi-Wan's side to protect him?!

"Anakin."

The young knight jumped to his feet, hand going to his lightsaber, as he had not sensed anyone approaching. It took him a moment to recognize that the voice was the familiar lit of his Master and that the man himself was standing a few feet from him, hood pulled low over his head.

"M-master?" Anakin stammered, confused. Obi-Wan was supposed to be on the Negotiator, his own flagship, light-years away.

"Come with me. We need to talk."

Anakin nodded and followed his master, taking note that it must have been late at night, the ship running a skeleton crew and lights dimmed in the long grey corridors.

He wanted to ask about Obi-Wan's sudden appearance, but the other man was quiet and hurrying a few paces ahead, so he resigned himself to waiting until they were alone. Most likely his Master had some extremely sensitive information to share, if he had come with no prior notice or even a comm call.

Anakin noticed that he was steering them towards his cabin, the heavy durasteel door sliding shut once they were inside.

He opened his mouth to speak, but Obi-Wan pressed a finger to his lips as a clear sign for silence. Anakin watched in slight bewilderment as the other set up a small mushroom shaped electronic device. He was curious to study it further, guessing it was some sort of scrambler he had never seen before. As Obi-Wan flipped the switch though, the world suddenly fell grey and oddly silent, it was almost as if he had suddenly been submersed underwater.
