• Summary: Not even Anakin with his loud presence in the force and seemingly unending power could hold up half a cave system for close to an hour without it taking a toll as Obi-Wan and the Official ushered panicking citizens to safety. Obi-Wan had to pry Anakin from the cave with his own hands, walking slowly with the boy until it was safe enough to let the cavern collapse behind them. And with the falling debris, Anakin crumbles to the ground spent and shaking.

It was supposed to be an easy mission.
With the civil unrest in the rings and the growing political tensions, Obi-Wan (as well as other masters with older padawans) had been encouraged to take a few simpler missions to encourage Anakin to grow his leadership skills. All the missions are things that a padawan should have no problem doing themselves and he knows it’s also a separation tactic by the council, something to remind Obi-Wan that Anakin might be young but he is capable and he’s fastly approaching his twenties when padawans start studying harder to pass the trials into knighthood.
So yes, it was supposed to be an easy mission, set in a planet in the inner rim where they could return home quickly afterwards to debrief with the council provided they rested on the trip home.
Anakin will never be a spectacular negotiator, but with his own natural charm and the things he’s picked up from Obi-Wan he does quite admirably. He talks the low-level government official around to releasing the protesters and supplementing the wages that they are insistent they can’t afford without raising taxes with extra food portions. Considering it’s a farming planet the plan has a good bit of solid ground to stand on.
The jail the protesters were held in was an old cave system that had been once mined for fertilizer and has since been abandoned since the planet had turned to organically recycled fertilizing machines almost three decades ago. Frankly it has all seemed to be going far too well with the official even accompanying them to free the protesters when the tremors started.
At first no one seemed worried.
The planet has many low level earthquakes after all, helping quite a bit with their agricultural success. So none of the citizens seemed even slightly worried until the first parts of the cave ceiling began to collapse.
Not even Anakin with his loud presence in the force and seemingly unending power could hold up half a cave system for close to an hour without it taking a toll as Obi-Wan and the Official ushered panicking citizens to safety. Obi-Wan had to pry Anakin from the cave with his own hands, walking slowly with the boy until it was safe enough to let the cavern collapse behind them.
And with the falling debris, Anakin crumbles to the ground spent and shaking.
The official had been kind enough to offer them lodging for Anakin’s recovery, thankful and worrying in equal measure. While they clearly saw Anakin as a strong and capable force (which he is) they were still jarred by both the events of the day and the sight of Obi-Wan having to jam himself under the taller male’s arm and heave him back up.
The speeder back to where they'll be staying is a brief respite for them both.
Anakin is taller than he used to be, heavier. He’s more broadly muscled than he looks in his robes and Obi-Wan can’t remember the last time they were so physically close. It shouldn’t be such a surprise, he’s been intentionally distancing himself in the last few years.
The wind from the speeder ride seems to offer Anakin a small bit of comfort. Red faced and breathing in sharp little breaths, Anakin is clearly overheating. He’s overexerted himself, pushed himself to force sickness for people he had never even met because above all else Anakin cares.
