❤️Full Title: Running Away, Running To You (sequel to A Guide to Ignoring your Feelings and Being Rude to Your Intended, a Visualized Guide by Anakin Skywalker)

🗡️🗡️🗡️🗡️🗡️🗡️

Summary: Obi-Wan seems startled by his question, but the surprise could also stem from the fact that Anakin is attempting conversation before he’s had his kaff. The man shifts in his chair and clears his throat before he answers. “What do you mean?”

“I meant exactly what I asked. Why are you marrying me?”

Anakin asks questions and suffers through the answers. Mostly, they leave him more confused than he was before. But hey, at least he gets a nice trip out of it, and he's half sure Obi-Wan is not straight. So yeah. He's totally doing great. Things are going great.

Anakin’s been living on Stewjon for the past five days, and he’s getting used to it. Or, well. He’s getting used to Obi-Wan. He still spends most of his time alone in his chambers, but whenever there are meetings they need to attend, the older man has made it a point to stay by his side. To do as much damage control as he can, with no doubt.

At this point everyone seems to have accepted the fact that Anakin’s not listening to the social instructors he’s been assigned, but Obi-Wan seems to just roll with it, so he doesn’t see any reason to change it. It’s fine. Maybe he should be feeling bad about it, because he’s pretty sure Obi-Wan has better things to do than to accompany him to try on shoes for their wedding or get introduced to the leaders of the royal guard, but. Well. He’s decided that he will do just enough to keep the king satisfied and simultaneously plastered to his side.

Anakin has even been making minimum effort to remember some of the names of the people they encounter, but he much prefers when his future husband whispers the names into his ears a moment before he’s meant to greet them. Why listen to social instructors about which guests he has to greet first, when Obi-Wan will steer him towards the right ones with a hand on his elbow? No, Anakin much prefers it this way. And Obi-Wan seems happy enough to lead him around, so he sees no harm in staying ignorant for as long as he can.

Honestly, at this point he can’t be blamed for his shortcomings. It’s like Obi-Wan is trying to reward his bad behavior with his presence.

It all seems fine whenever he spends time with Obi-Wan, like he does this morning. They are having breakfast together like they do most days.

While he’s waiting for the servants to set the small table, he wonders if things will change between them once they get married. With Padme, he had always been sure that they would properly fall in love once they were spouses. With Obi-Wan… he isn’t sure. The king has been nothing but kind, but talking to him doesn’t feel like talking to Padme had. He doesn’t really know the other man, so he can’t really tell if he is merely showing him kindness with his actions, or if it’s something more.

He's seen other men being in love with each other, so he knows it’s not about that. Maybe their age gap is making it harder? Is Obi-Wan even into men? Should he just ask?

Does he want to risk it?

Anakin looks at the man in front of him while the last servant leaves a dish of porridge on the table and hurries away. They are sitting at a small but sturdy table on one of the big balconies of the palace. The white sandstone reflects the early morning sun and warms his face in the clean fresh morning air. The assortment of breakfast foods from different core planets are currently being scrutinized by Obi-Wan, who doesn’t seem to be a picky eater, but a very… attentive one. Two days ago, he had pointed out to Anakin that the peas in their soup were bigger than usual, which in his opinion must mean that they came from the western provinces, where there had been a lot more rain than usual.
