Summary: When Palpatine takes Padawan Skywalker on a “field trip” through Coruscant, with the intent to persuade Anakin into seeing his way of thinking and nudge him instead toward the Dark Side, the opposite happens. Upon seeing a woman being tormented and hurt by her captors in the street causes him to see a vision from the future. In his panic, Anakin runs back to Tatooine in order to be reunited with Shmi and prevent her inevitable death as well as the would have been slaughter of the Tusken Raider Tribe. Due to this, it’s all prevented…though, now Master Kenobi is without a Padawan.

Years later, during the Clone Wars, Jabba the Hutt wishes to meet with Master Kenobi on Tatooine about his missing huttlet. With his new Padawan, Ahsoka Tano by his side, the search is on, though, the Huttlet is not as far from home as previously anticipated… and it turns out, neither is an old friend.

Heartbreak, it’s a part of the cycle of life as well as the way of the Force. It wasn’t a new feeling to Obi-Wan, having experienced it many times before in the past. From being glossed over and sent to the Agricorps by the Council, to having to leave Satine behind to pursue the Jedi Path, to losing Qui-Gon to Darth Maul. It was a feeling he should have been used to…

…yet, for some reason, this new loss hurt like nothing he had ever felt before. Despite trying to send his feelings into the Force, he couldn’t help but continue to feel the way he did. It was heartbreak because he failed Qui-Gon, anger and sadness mixing together.

Anakin Skywalker is the Chosen One, and it had been Obi-Wan’s duty to train the boy so that he could one day bring balance to the Force. It had been Qui-Gon’s dying request, yet Obi-Wan couldn’t fulfill it. And it was thanks to Chancellor Palpatine…though, why Anakin had agreed to a secret “field trip”, as the older man had called it, Obi-Wan wished he knew why. Whatever happened, it had caused Anakin to freak out, a brief beacon in the Force before the boy had run off onto the earliest transport back to Tatooine.

It was as if the light had left his life. A promise, broken, dead and gone. He had failed his master for Force only knew how many times. It seemed to be something he was good at after all; failing Qui-Gon. Despite what Master Yoda said and reassured him over and over, Obi-Wan truly felt like he wasn’t meant to be a Jedi Knight. That the Force had set out a path for him and was still telling him that the future he had dreamed of was never meant to be.

Perhaps he was supposed to be a farmer. Or at least was never meant to train The Chosen One. Either way, he felt like a failure.

With a shake of his head, Obi-Wan dispersed those thoughts and feelings into the Force. There was no time for thoughts like those. The Past couldn’t be changed and to think otherwise, Master Yoda had always told him that it was important to be in the moment. And right now, he had to start anew. He had been given a new Padawan to train, much to his hesitance and self-doubt, but Master Windu had always had faith in him.

Though, to be honest, Master Windu was adamantly against Anakin being trained at all, believing the boy to be too attached to his past…too old to be a Padawan and thought the “Chosen One Prophecy” to be nothing but “tales” anyhow. An excuse for Qui-Gon to be rid of responsibility of Obi-Wan and move on to another in the belief of pursuing some “higher purpose”.

It was safe to say that Master Windu wasn’t a fan of Qui-Gon either. But he apparently had been a fan of Obi-Wan’s.

So much so, that Master Windu, Master Yoda, Master Plo, and Master Luminara pushed the Council to get Obi-Wan a new Padawan; a young Togruta named Ahsoka Tano. She had shown up a couple of hours ago on Christophsis, in the midst of the battle taking place there. But, after a win for the Republic, he had gotten to know her, and the Padawan was adamant about him, smiling and full of questions, evidently having heard tales of him through the Council Grapevine.
