Summary: There was something wrong. It was all Obi-Wan’s fault. Now that Anakin was growing up, his gaze lingered. No more was he his sweet innocent nephew Ani, now he was growing into a man. He couldn’t help but stare at how his lips had filled out, plump and sinfully pink.

Obi-Wan was not the biggest family man. His family described him as a workaholic, which he thought was inaccurate but what can you really do to change your family’s perception of you. His mother passed away at a very young age, which left him with only his father, Qui-Gon. His father had a small family, as he was an only child. For his mother, he couldn’t say the same. He had a good handful of Aunts and Uncles from that side.

Obi-Wan was only close with two people in his family. His father, and his cousin Shmi. She was the daughter of his mother’s oldest sister. Shmi was ten years older than him, but they were close nonetheless. They spent many spring breaks, and summers together. Even in their adolescence, they would go out to dinner, and drinks. For their earlier years, they lived close to each other. That was until Shmi fell in love.

She moved in with the man quickly, leaving everything behind just to be with him. All the while they kept in contact. Their relationship didn’t last long. After barely a year, he left. He wasn’t leaving just Shmi either. He was leaving their unborn child as well. After nine months, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy. For the first few years she could manage on her own. But as the boy grew, she knew he needed a man in his life.

Cue the four am phone call that Obi-Wan received one fateful night. Shmi was crying softly, worried for her son, and painfully lonely herself. With a hushed voice, she asked Obi-Wan to move closer. It was a big ask, almost unthinkable. But Obi-Wan had always been there for her. Next thing he knew he was looking for homes to rent.

Obi-Wan moved within the month.

His nephew, Anakin Skywalker, was definitely a handful. Having an adhd diagnosis and boundless energy, he easily tired both of them out. But of course, those big blue eyes could get him out of trouble, at least with Obi-Wan. Anakin would pout, and bat those eyelashes and it was over. As Anakin grew up, he confided in Obi-Wan. Whenever he needed to talk, he was the first option. They had formed a deep connection, no doubt. As the years passed, they fell into an easy dynamic, of playful banter, and deep heart to hearts.

But there was something wrong. It was all Obi-Wan’s fault. Now that Anakin was growing up, his gaze lingered. No more was he the sweet innocent Ani, now he was growing into a man. He couldn’t help but stare at how his lips had filled out, plump and sinfully pink. His legs were no longer lanky, as he participated in activities such as dance, and soccer, his legs became more defined. He learned to take better care of himself too. His hair was no longer a tangled rat’s nest. His curls became softer, and more present. His skin practically glowed, and he even occasionally did his own makeup. There was no denying that Anakin Skywalker was growing into an incredible being, experimenting, and growing into the world around him.

These feelings coiled in Obi-Wan’s stomach. Made him sick. So he did the only two things he could think of. He put distance between him and Anakin, and made more frequent trips to the liquor store.

It was impossible trying to ignore Anakin forever. Every time he got a call late in the evening, he would make himself a drink. When Shmi asked him to visit, he’d make sure to stay extra late at work those days. He did everything he could to run away from his own feelings. It was all he could do, drink, and run. Until he was left with no option.

“Obi-Wan, Anakin needs you.” Shmi had scolded. “I know your firm is important to you, but please, you’re part of his support system. You’re breaking his poor heart.” She confessed. “He was asking about you. He says there’s something he wants to talk to you about.”
