Summary: A Sith has been killed. That's the only thing Dooku tells Obi-Wan. When Vader doesn't get in contact with him for hours after, Darth Ventus is terrified that it may have been his secret lover who fell to a Jedi's blade.

It's not, but now Obi-Wan is demanding a force bond between himself and his partner so that will never happen again. The only problem is that Darth Sidious, Anakin's master, would never allow something like that.

Good thing Sith have no compunctions about murder.

A Sith had been killed.

That's all his master had told him over the comms. The Jedi had managed to take out a Sith in the battle on Christophsis. He'd ended the call soon after, demanding that Obi-Wan make immediately for the Sith temple on Buldern. They'd need to regroup, reassign roles, retrain, now that a Sith has been killed.

A Sith has been killed.

The words run through Obi-Wan's head as he sits in the pilot seat of his ship, watching the stars blur into hyperspace.

Sith have been killed before, obviously. The Sith and the Jedi have been at war with each other for almost fifty years now, tearing the galaxy asunder as they try to triumph over their enemy. Both orders have taken children, trained them to fight, to kill, to use the Force to fight and kill, and then thrown them into battle.

Sith have been killed before.

There is little love between the Sith. Obi-Wan has seen men and women fall to Jedi blades and not shed a tear for their loss. The Order does not encourage nor reward loyalty between its members, and Obi-Wan is nothing but what the Sith have created him to be. He doesn't care for his fellow Sith.

Sith have been killed before, and Obi-Wan has never cared much.

But this is the first time he doesn't know which Sith.

When he checks his comm again, there is no new missed message. With a snarl, he throws the comm across the bridge where it hits the wall hard enough to leave a dent. The dark side of the Force roars and twists around him, a reflection of his anger.

A Sith has been killed, Dooku said. And Vader has not commed him. His hands clench into fists on his thighs. Vader has not commed him.

A Sith has been killed.

It could have been Darth Vader who died today.

A crack appears in the transparisteel of the ship's hull. Obi-Wan forces himself to take several deep breaths, reining in his emotions. He cannot jump to conclusions. Doing so would benefit no one.

The simple truth of the matter is that if Darth Vader has died, there is nowhere in the galaxy that any Jedi could hide from Obi-Wan's rage. They would all die in punishment, and it would still not be sufficient payment for the loss of Darth Vader.

Anakin Skywalker.

Obi-Wan can't think of it. Of anything. He wants to demand to know the name of the Sith killed. He doesn't want to wait.

Surely if Anakin had died, Obi-Wan would have felt it. The whole galaxy would have shifted, fallen into chaos if Anakin had been struck down.

No, he can't think about it.

Setting the ship's comms to alert him upon landing, he gets up from his seat and retires to the small room in the back. Meditating will help.

And if he's only meditating for the slim chance of feeling Anakin's presence in the galaxy, well. No one has to know.
