❤️Full Title: A Guide to Ignoring your Feelings and Being Rude to your Intended, A Visualized Guide by Anakin Skywalker
🗡️🗡️🗡️🗡️🗡️🗡️
• Summary: Anakin has it all planned out: get married to Padme, turn his political marriage into a romantic and then sexual one, be an amazing King Consort, fund a school for the humanitarian mechanics, die happily. Things change, though, and before he knows it, he is on his way to Stewjon, to get married to the monarch, a man he's never met before. And yeah, the Stewjoni probably aren't at fault here, but what is he supposed to do? Not make this everyone else's problem? Have you met him?

Anakin understands he will be married to form a political allegiance by the time he is seven years old. The young prince knows by then that this is what royals do. The duty to rule falls to his oldest sibling, his sister Leia. Luke, his brother, marries into a wealthy family on the other side of the planet to ensure the continuation of the economic power of their line. As the youngest, he will marry off-planet.
He understands his duties, and he isn't unhappy about them. While he enjoys being home, he never really enjoyed Tatooine, of all places. The heat, the sand, the insects. He's been on many planets and had preferred most of them over his home. He isn't unhappy about the prospects of political marriage either. His mother and his father had come to love each other, and Luke enjoys his life as well, even if his wife and him aren't the closest. They still like and respect each other and live their lives happily next to each other. Anakin learns that marriage can be fulfilling, if it is done right.
Just after his 9th nameday, he is introduced to the future Queen of Naboo, Padme Amidala. She's beautiful, smart, and gets along well with his sister and mother, so when Leia tells him that he will probably end up as her betrothed, he is more than happy about it. He even looks forward to it. The next seven years of his life he spends preparing for this next part of his life that he knows is coming. He spends hours being taught about the local languages and history, learns to differentiate the Nabooian styles of art and music. He knows all fourteen royal families at heart by the time he is eleven.
When he is nineteen, and finally old enough by Nabooian standards to marry, things change. Sadly, not for the better.
To Anakin's dismay, he isn't married to one of his best friends-slash-childhood-crushes, they never have a political marriage which slowly turns romantic and then sexual, and he never gets to even kiss her! He isn't crowned King Consort on one of his favorite planets, isn't praised for his knowledge of the local customs, doesn't get invited to all of the festivities, doesn't get to fund a school for the humanitarian mechanics.
Senator Palpatine gets in his way, because he keeps using his veto right on the marriage contract, and nothing anyone comes up with is ever agreeable to both sides. The discussions drag on and on, and both his patience and his friendship to Padme become strained over time. After three years, Anakin has become sour. He's started to keep to himself when he isn't required to sit in on the countless discussions of his future life, because at least when he's alone he doesn't have to sit still and be quiet. At least when he's alone with his droids, he can try and forget the heavy weight of people's looks, of Padme's silence.
At least the ending is mutual, and Palpatine loses his seat on the senate for the trouble he's caused.
Anakin feels like he's lost more. He's lost an entire life.
The problem that everyone focuses on instead, is that Anakin is the third born of his family, and he isn't nineteen anymore. By now he is twenty-two and unmarried, has lost his reputation of being a sweetheart, and their families political advisers seem to have little hope of finding a (suitable) willing option for him on the royal marriage market. The prince himself can't bring himself to care a lot. He tries to be happy that there are no more meetings that require his presence.
