Summary: On a planet whose atmosphere is filled with a gas with... interesting side effects, Anakin and Obi-Wan are sent to take out a Separatist base. And of course, as always, everything goes wonderfully, gloriously wrong.

“This has got to be the most insane mission the Council has put us on.” Anakin snarked, breaking the contemplative, if slightly awkward, silence that had fallen over the war room.

“I’m certain we’ve been on others just as dangerous.” Obi-Wan said, eyes resolutely fixed on the holo-displays that were covering the table. Even he sounded awkward, and Anakin was suddenly more grateful than ever that the rest of the troops had cleared before they started their research.

The premise was frankly insane, even if the goal was understandable. The planet Faraaca had a Separatist information database stored on it. While it’s air defenses were top of the line, its ground ones were nearly non-existent, making it perfect for one or two people to slip in unnoticed and grab any incriminating info they needed to plot out their next moves. Except the catch, because there was always a catch, the planet’s surface was dense with plant life, and the atmosphere was… less than ideal.

A toxin that gave most humanoids a heart attack with just a few lungfuls. In small amounts it wasn’t lethal, but was a potent aphrodisiac sought out by Coruscanti nobles trying to spice up their parties.

So yeah, “none of them had us doing an on-ground heist on a planet with a potentially toxic atmosphere, and no backup!” He snapped, hands rifling through the datapads as if there were one in there that magically said ‘this is all just a prank you can go do ground assaults on some totally breathable and very evil planets now!’ He scowled.

He could practically hear Obi-Wan rolling his eyes. “We have backup, if the situation goes south, but with any luck we won’t need it.”

Luck would have nothing to do with it. They were the two best generals in the galaxy, the duo. If they couldn’t do it, then it just wasn’t worth getting done, in Anakin’s opinion… but even he knew to be cautious with something so risky.

“Why send two Jedi down there? If things are as sparsely guarded as the Council seems to think, why not just send me?”

Obi-Wan’s eyes snapped to his, intense, protective, and exasperated all in one. Emotions that Anakin could pick out easier on him than anyone else in the galaxy, ones he was all too familiar with seeing in his former Master’s gaze. “Absolutely not. We’ve been over this Anakin, we watch each other’s backs, we’re in this together.” His tone left no room for argument, and Anakin swallowed roughly.

“Fine, but we’ll need med-evac with the engines warm on standby. I don’t like the idea of the only thing between us and the aphrodisiac laced, highly toxic atmosphere being a few layers of spacesuit.”

“Me neither, but if the data from this base is important, then we will do what we must.” Obi-Wan finished, placing the pad in his hand down on the table and leaning back with a sigh. “We’ll bring stims and flex with us, enough to keep us going until we get back to the ship should we take any damages.”

Anakin nodded, staring blankly at the table, feeling that tension in the Force grow tighter every second.

Yeah, going on a dangerous stealth mission with the… nature of this planet alongside the man he’s been in love with for years.

He had a bad feeling about this.

The ship trembled as it sank through the clouds, the controls shaking harshly in Anakin’s grip as they broke through the lower atmosphere. It was dense, thick clouds rolling past their windshield. He kept a keen eye on the monitor to see where the ground was, flying carefully blind through the fog as thick as soup. The weather made their touchdown unknown, and he eased the small ship to land softly on the foreign planet.
