Summary: Anakin returns to his home town for the summer and attends Mass with his mother where the ever enticing Father Kenobi is the priest.

“Anakin,” Father Kenobi said, looking up from his Bible from where he sat at his desk. “What can I do for you?” He seemed to be a little surprised at the intrusion, but didn’t say anything that would give it away.

Anakin supposed he wasn’t used to having visitors in the evening after Mass. Anakin used to visit Father Kenobi all the time in the off hours just to argue and debate, but ever since he had left for college, he could no longer do that. He smirked, taking a seat in a chair without being asked. “I was just thinking about your homily.”

“Were you?” Father Kenobi asked, leaning back in his own chair. “You didn’t seem particularly interested when I was giving it.”

Anakin laughed, stretching his legs out in front of him. “It’s hard to maintain interest when the Mass is so long.” Though it wasn’t really that difficult when it was Father Obi-Wan Kenobi standing in front of the congregation.

Father Kenobi tilted his head to the side and raised an eyebrow. “I’m surprised you still come to Mass.”

“Mom likes it when I do,” Anakin shrugged. “And since I’m home for a bit, I thought I’d make her happy.”

“Is that what you came to talk about?” Father Kenobi pressed.

“You could tighten them up a little,” Anakin said simply, playing with a rosary that was on the Father’s desk. “Make them more interesting.”

Father Kenobi sighed. “I noticed you stayed back during communion,” he said, diverting the conversation.

“Are you only paying attention to me, Father?” Anakin teased.

“Everyone in my congregation is important to me,” Father Kenobi said easily. “I pay attention to those who need help.”

“You think I need help?” Anakin grinned. “Maybe I should come for confession sometime.” He sat up straight. “Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned. It’s been-”

“Anakin,” Father Kenobi stopped him. “If you prefer to keep it anonymous, you can come on Wednesdays-”

Anakin cocked his head to the side, still grinning. “I’m surprised you still remember my name.”

“I remember everyone’s name.”

“Even though it’s been…” Anakin did the math in his head. “Six years since I’ve been here?”

“It’s hard to forget a Skywalker,” Father Kenobi said pleasantly.

“It’s hard to forget a Kenobi,” Anakin echoed and stood from his chair. “I’ll see ya Wednesday,” he said and left the small office.

The church was remarkably quiet as Anakin walked through the rows of pews towards the confessional booth. It might have been six years since he had seen Father Kenobi, but it had been even longer since his last confession.

Though he supposed this wasn’t going to be a real confession.

He opened the door to the small confessional booth and sat down, unable to get comfortable. What was it with Catholics and their need to make everything as droll and uncomfortable as possible?

“Forgive me, Father-”

“You should begin by saying, ‘In the name of the Father-’” Father Kenobi interrupted.
