• Summary: “You look lovely like this, Ani.” Obi-Wan sounded sincere, making Anakin’s face flush harder. “I wish you told me sooner.”
Or, Anakin has a secret drag persona and Obi-Wan is into it.

It wasn’t often that Anakin got a lot of time off, but when he did he often found himself at the lower levels.
Sometimes it was because he wanted to be at the pod races. Other times a friend just knew a good place that sold very unhealthy food. But most times it was because he wanted to go to the Mirage Lounge.
He slid into the back where the performers were getting ready. Anakin didn’t perform, he couldn’t sing or dance, but so many of them had gotten used to his presence that they would happily clear out a space for him to get ready there so he didn’t have to try and split his preparation between his room and the alley out back.
The Council wouldn’t necessarily kick him out for his dalliances, but he didn’t want Obi-Wan trying to deter him from his little pastime. It was a little too important to him.
There was always conversation in the back, but mostly people kept to themselves. Some had quite complex outfits and couldn’t waste time before their performances. So Anakin focused on getting into his outfit. He didn’t have much, nor did he have a lot of makeup, but what he did have he thought worked out well. He didn’t use foam to cheat a figure; most considered him androgynous enough already. His face was the most complicated part. He softened his jawline, made sure his eyeliner was sharp, and glued down his eyebrows so he could put thinner ones on. The lipstick shade was a classic red that matched his outfit. This night he kept his normal hair, but added earrings and a necklace.
Finally he donned his outfit. It was a simple dress with a high slit and a matching thong. The boots were black heels, his only pair. The finishing touch was a set of press-on nails that Anakin always left for last so they wouldn’t get in the way of his other preparations. With that, he was ready. Around him most of the queens were still working on their outfits. But since Anakin only wished to mingle he quickly cleaned up, thanked his neighbor, and headed out to chat with some of the men who frequented the lounge.

When Obi-Wan was assigned this mission, he had no idea it would lead him to discover things about himself he had never known before.
So far, the target had been hard to pin down. Obi-Wan had spent a few days trying to find a good opportunity to make contact, but the man had proved slippery. He was a tall, shady human male called Mon Aether, and his latest venture had led him to a flashy bar called The Mirage Lounge. Obi-Wan followed him in at a safe distance, surreptitiously ordering a drink and finding a spot in the corner to sit and observe from.
Obi-Wan was so focused on not losing the man this time that he was not especially attuned to the rest of his surroundings in the Force.
🗡️🗡️🗡️🗡️🗡️
If Anakin had to describe his makeup and outfits, he’d almost describe them like armor. He felt powerful in them in a way that he simply didn’t in most other clothes, because he knew how others responded to them. Men found him attractive; women thought he was fun. And if that was the outfits or the drinking or the wild atmosphere of the club then that was neither here nor there.
