• Summary: After a number of assassination attempts against Naboo Senator Anakin Skywalker, the Jedi Council assigns Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan Ahsoka Tano to protect him on Coruscant. However, another threat requires that Anakin hides away on Naboo with Obi-Wan as his only guard.
In a lake house of his adopted home, the two find solace and fill their time surrounded by a glittering lake, wildflowers, and endless time.

Even if anyone on Coruscant managed to miss the live reports, the great smoking mess clouding the atmosphere is impossible not to see. Unfortunately, the great clattering explosion drew the attention of Holorecorders all too late. None caught the extent of the action, but really it began far off world, and the Senate’s protective guard ushered all notable figures involved off the scene before it could air for all the galaxy to see.
And by the time Obi-Wan Kenobi walks through the familiar, metallicly impersonal Senate district, anyone who’s anyone has heard the news.
Another day another assassination attempt.
The capital planet glitters and flashes outside the elevator’s transparisteel walls. And with each rotation on this planet and all those across the galaxy, political tensions rose. It seems every possible faction had no qualms sowing discord with every imaginable opponent. With every moment the galaxy grew only more complicated. So too did Coruscant, the details of which grow fainter as the occupants of the lift rise higher still. Thankfully they care little for the rolling cityscape view their ascent afforded them— no, they are entirely preoccupied with one another and their newly appointed task.
“So…” the Togruta Padawan drawls out a casual inquiry. Both too long ago and not long enough, she stood so much shorter and better fit the endearment “little one” so often pointed at her. Now the peaks of her montrals make her taller (only technically) than her Jedi Master (who’s the one that argues the technicality). “Do you like the Senator from Naboo?” She asks it with all the cool countenance he taught her to employ in diplomatic council— a politely veiled curiosity as though making small pleasantries. But still a hint of her natural curiosity peaks in.
Obi-Wan Kenobi’s name rings throughout the galaxy as the Jedi Order’s renowned Negotiator. His skill with words - his silver tongue and overflowing charm - precede him. He casts a glance down at his Padawan learner (because in a matter of eye level, he still holds the advantage) and, mustering all this famous skill, scoffs “What does that have to do with anything?”
Ahsoka Tano is nothing if not proud. Yes, she is also humble, in the way all Jedi are when the opportunity permits, but mostly she is proud, and for good reason. Though right now, as their bodies calmly hurtle vertically along this elevator shaft, she is proud to torment her Master— a sentiment any good Padawan knows well. “Right… So are you excited to see him again?”
Obi-Wan did not look at her. He kept his face impassive and smoothed his robes— a nervous habit he would never admit to. “No.”
“Uh huh,” she rolls her eyes. “Well- I can’t wait to ask him about Cato Neimoidia, since you refuse to tell me.”
And not because she got to him, but clearly because he independently desires to share the information, Obi-Wan relents “It has been a while since we worked together, clearly not since you’ve been my Padawan. Senator Skywalker is… reckless, and he enjoys making my life very difficult. I have not missed being the unlucky individual responsible for his safety and I do not anticipate monitoring him now will be any easier than it was years ago.”
While the Republic - the whole galaxy, really - may know Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi for his skill and charisma, Ahsoka Tano knows him for his inability (or stubborn refusal) to admit his own feelings. Call it Jedi emotional control or what one will, but she calls it emotional constipation.
