Vaughn slowly placed the box on the mantle, as soon as he was sure that it wouldn't fall he quickly turned around. Just as he did he caught a glimpse of his son. His world. Smiling softly Vaughn knelt down to the ground as he watched his little boy waddle over to him.

This was a sight that he could never get over.As he watched his son drag his bright blue bear by the ear he smiled. What was it about the innocence of a child that seemed to melt all of his worries away?

Vaughn bit his lip as he slowly wrapped his arms around the boy bringing him closer to his body.Vaughn took a deep breath so that his sons scent filled his nose. He could never get enough of this. It was like the best scent in the world. It was the one scent that could always make his roughest days turn into sunshine and rainbows.Taking a deep breath Vaughn quickly stood up with his son cradled against him.

He couldn't help but smile at the boy. Why did he have to be so stupid and let the only one that he would love slip through his fingers? It was like he had no brain at all.Vaughn just wished that Athiss was standing next to him. That was his dream- his wish. If Athiss was here then his life would be complete. But he was an idiot- he knew that. And yet he stayed here unmoving- unwilling and it was his fault everything was.Quickly biting his lip Vaughn looked across the room. As his sons mother crossed her arms, eyeing him slowly she whispered" It's been three damn years Vaughn, when are you going to go after him? When are you going to tell him that he's all that matters to you? When are you going to stop tiptoeing around this topic?"

"There comes a time when I can't- I won't, he will turn me away, he hates me. Just isn't enough. There comes a time when you must grow up. When you mustn't be afraid of showing him the Vaughn of now. Not the Vaughn of the past."

"I am not saying that you haven't- because damn have you. You've become the kind of man that anyone would want to love them Vaughn. But your heart isn't with anyone but Athiss, and I know that. But you do know that when that man decides to cut you lose he will and no amount of prodding from you to Cheryl will matter. She won't be able to fix this, she won't be able to stop it.""Once he makes up his mind Vaughn this marriage no this title that you are so desperately holding onto will crumble. And there will be absolutely nothing that none of us can do to help you- to protect you. We all love and cherish you Vaughn but we can't protect you from this heartbreak that I am so sure will happen.

And it will happen sooner rather than later.
